(Hear me out)
In today's world where we grow tired of the lack of accountability ...and performance of our elected officials that loophole and mix self-interest into every decision they are tasked with making, why not make the people more involved than voting just every election.
First, why not update the laws to hold public officials more accountable in performance, ethics and corruption with greater penalty to curb their appetite for unscrupulous thoughts and mismanagement of the people's treasury.
Second, why not make citizens common shareholders that must vote on important matters so that it goes beyond parliament and their back and forth and subsequent inaction because they don't want the other party to get praise for progress.
It really upsets me when the opposition (both parties do this) is against a proposal because it will become a symbol of progress enacted by the party in power. They not thinking or protecting the people they thinking about and protecting their party (business). The interchange by Grand Bazaar was a good example, spent millions of tax payer dollars to run studies and got to the final stage to cancel and start over because parties changed power and that would be too great a symbol. The other one I could recall was the rapid rail. Millions wasted.
Don't be fooled, most politicians do not care about you (they are self-interested) hence I put it to you to demand more influence in the decisions they make, a vote by proxy with proper process of identifying voters to mitigate fraud and allow for every voice to be heard (national electronic registry).
Clearly the elected officials are not held accountable and this is where we fail as a nation because we elect, they waste 5 years, we get disenfranchised, and we "steups-up" and say well next time we going to vote someone better and they get into office and the cycle begins anew.
Break the cycle, become that voice, be a part of the change. Demand updating the laws to make government more accountable.
