Louisiana's Department of Motor Vehicles will reverse its no cash policy on most transactions as soon as Dec. 1.
If you don't move over for police and emergency vehicles on the shoulder of the highway, you could pay a $200 fine.
New information received from the Office of Motor Vehicles.
Beginning November 1st, 2016, (11/01/2016), the Office of Motor Vehicles will no longer accept cash as a form of payment for any transaction. Acceptable forms of payment for a driver's license, identification card, mobility impaired hang tag and any type of vehicle registration transaction will be a credit card, a debit card, a personal check, money order and cashier's check.
Acceptable forms of payment for reinstatement fees will be a credit card, a debit card, money order and cashier's check. You will not be able to use a personal check to pay for reinstatement fees and transactions.
REAL ID -
If you do not wish to have a REAL ID driver's license when you are renewing your license and are changing your address you will need to show one proof of residency. Before it was two proofs of residency.
If you want a REAL ID driver's license or identification card you must provide two proofs of residency in addition to the primary and secondary documents to prove identity. All documentation must be in the physical form as they will be copied and scanned. This is required even if you currently have a driver's license in hand.
Parents of students must have the same address they are providing for the student if they are to be signing as guardian or custodial parent.
A Louisiana driver's license, permit or identification card issued to the applicant's parent, guardian, spouse or other immediate family member residing in the same household. The immediate family member must be present and provide his Louisiana driver's license, permit or identification card in person.
Proof of insurance is required on all transactions.
