It's COLD already and will keep getting colder. Let's help the People prepare to have what they need for the upcoming winter. The equipment it takes to stay warm and to survive the life-threatening low temperatures are basic necessities to which all should have access, yet many lack.
Our working-class neighbors, especially those that are without shelter, face the harshest conditions of capitalism through violent displacement like eviction, food insecurity, and incarceration. This is not right! Why is it so expensive to be poor? We live in a world where there are fees for overdrafting your bank account - you literally have to pay money because you don't have any money! People lose their jobs for missing work because they don't even get paid enough to GET to work!
Why should we accept this miserable state of affairs, in which we become disposable cogs in a machine designed to facilitate the enrichment of a few by exploiting our labor? Local government’s total abandonment of their initial promises to address the just demands forcefully raised during and in the wake of the George Floyd Uprising makes it clear that the only way the masses will win liberation is through their own militant struggle!
However, the masses cannot win their liberation when they don’t have the basic means to physically protect themselves from the elements. When there are people who have multiple expensive coats when others have none, this must be reconciled. For The People – Twin Cities is calling on those who have reliable shelter and reliable income to donate items listed on the following slides and/or buy new gear for those who have been neglected and harassed by the settler-colonial state. We must build solidarity and strength in order to struggle together. We have nothing to lose but our chains!
