Who is the best volunteer at FoodCycle LSE? You've been dying to know, now the truth is out. It's Maria! Well for this month at least. She's our first ever Volunteer of the Month! Maria you work so hard and so, so often. You are a superstar, thank you. In other news the wonderful Maria, plus Eva Maria, Jenny, and Mina made some of the best food we've ever had, and answered some more burning questions: how do you make broccoli soup sexy? Chive and garlic oil, hazelnut crumb and very finely sliced broccoli stem. What do you with a marrow the size of a baby? Half it, hollow it and stuff it with cous cous and pine nuts. Who makes the fudgiest apple cake ever? Mina! Tasha dished the whole thing up, Ishana handed it out, Helen charmed the guests and made her first ever cafetiere of coffee and Avindi... got full on the soup. Only kidding Avindi, you did get full on soup, but you also looked after our guests beautifully. And what's more, we all took home tonnes of food. Had mine for lunch today, it was bloody wonderful. Thank you so much guys FoodCycle love Anna S and Kalyani

Another Sunday, another delicious lunch!

This week's soup was cooked by Dugald and Annie. It was a chunky tomato based vegetable soup with some crunch from herby croutons. With a little bit of added spice, it kicked away the cold outdoor chill. This was followed by a delicious caramelised onion and goat's cheese tart made by Sarah and Jeny. Sides of kale and beetroot added some lovely colour to the meal. Our final dish made by Mina was an apple crumble with an oat and walnut... crumble. Unsurprisingly there was no food left over, it was all absolutely devoured.

Our hosting team was amazing! They greeted our guests with a smile and were welcoming right from the start. A big shout out to Amanda and Eunice who were absolute stars in the dishwashing room! Meanwhile, Eugene and Wei Lik were brilliant in the front room chatting with the guests and serving them so efficiently. Together, they surely hold a record time of cleaning up the kitchen following the session!

A big THANK YOU to our suppliers, volunteers and hosts! See you soon!

Thank you very much to everyone who gave up their Sunday afternoon to volunteer today!

Our cooking team this week was Fung, Churn, Julia, Nicole and Eva and they cooked up an absolute storm today! Our starter was a leek and parsnip soup with hint of paprika .It was ideal for the cold, rainy Sunday weather outside and our guests thought so too as practically all of them came back for seconds. This was followed by a healthy main course of vegetable curry with brown rice and wa...s accompanied with kale and spinach salads – superfoodheaven! Our meal was completed with a comforting bread and butter pudding with a special addition of banana. Needless to say, any pudding leftovers were quickly picked up! .

A big thank you also goes to Fiona, Sarah, Maria and Jessica who were our hosting team tonight. It was their first time hosting today and they all did an absolutely brilliant job. From welcoming our guests right till clean up they were enthusiastic and friendly. We hope to see you all again soon!

Our final thank you goes to our guests! It’s always great to see so many familiar faces. They make every single session worth the effort. Thank you to our guest John for the thoughtful card. It was impossible to leave without a smile on our faces!

Thank you so much for the volunteers that made today's session amazing!

Big shout out to Cocoa Runners for donating 2Kgs of surplus chocolate. Angelica and Hannah used it to bake an AMAZING chocolate and orange cake with chocolate frosting. A real treat!

Not to mention Dug's very healthy (and cheesy!) Shakshouka (yeah, we had to check the spelling) and Jen & Eva's curry with fragrant rice.

We're off to the FoodCycle conference this weekend so are taking a brief hiatus from our Sunday meal (don't worry The Food Chain are covering so our guests won't go hungry!)

We'll be back cooking in Kings Cross on 23rd Oct, in the meantime take a look at the fantastic grub LSESU FoodCycle Society came up with on their give it a go day this Sunday! Broccoli soup w/paprika and sour cream. Veggie curry with a mixed salad and cucumber and yoghurt cooler followed by a Marks and Spencer donated orange cake!! Very proud of the committee and their recruits 😊

What a team this Sunday! We were slightly shy on surplus food this week which can be a big challenge serving a three course meal to each of our guests but somehow our dream team volunteers from Barclays still made all this happen...

Daniela whipped up a Roasted Cauliflower and Celery Salad which was served with delicious hot corn on the cob.

Lex and Jasmin created a wonderful Pasta in a homemade tomato sauce (with extra sundried tomatoes for a special treat!). Served with an ...array of vegetables including butter spinach, brocolli and roasted carrots thanks to Sundeepika and Jim!

To finish Sue made a lovely nectarine sponge cake served warm with grapes which our guests couldn't get enough of! Some people even managed three portions.

Big shout out to Maria and Anna who did a fantastic job introducing, coordinating and leading the cooking session, as well as helping clear up and serve!

Thanks again to all our wonderful volunteers and would like to once again say how impressed I am that even after every volunteer was doing their very first shift everything went super smoothly and we even managed to finish early! Big up to Barclays #dreamteam #manilovethecake #surplusfood #lsefoodcycle #foodcycle #barclays #volunteers

Go team! Yesterday Rujuta put together a spectacular array of veg and dips to begin our three course feast at The Food Chain! Jenny, Yining and Vishnu then rustled up a potato curry with homemade flat bread, ending the show with a fig and rhubarb crumble made by new recruit Julia! Our guests could not have been happier.
