Copenhagen Friday! Join the Internationalt Forums Mellemøstgruppe for a discussion with activists who were able to visit Ahmad Sa'adat in Jericho prison in 2005, plus a screening of "Roadmap to Apartheid":
Dozens of activists and campaigners gathered in Paris on Saturday, 18 March for meetings and a public event in solidarity with Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, Lebanese Communist struggler for Palestine held in French prisons for over 32 years. The event, organized by the Unified Campaign to Free Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, marked the International Day of Revolutionary Prisoners.
Khaled Barakat, the international coordinator of the Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa’adat, began his talk by sal...uting the young Palestinian leader and activist, Basil al-Araj, shot down by Israeli occupation forces as he resisted on 6 March. With an image of al-Araj projected behind him, Barakat noted that both al-Araj and Abdallah were deeply committed to revolutionary principle, even at deep personal cost to themselves, over the years.
He situated the case of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah in its historical context, particularly in the year 2017. He noted that this year marks 100 years of the colonization of Palestine, but also 100 years of Palestinian resistance – and 100 years of the victorious Russian revolution. In addition, he noted that 2017 is the anniversary of 70 years of al-Nakba, 50 years of the occupation of the West Bank, Jerusalem, Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights and 50 years of the founding of the Palestinian revolutionary left organization, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. On this year of important anniversaries – all of them connected to the life of struggle of Georges Abdallah – he urged participants to escalate the struggle for Abdallah’s freedom, saying that 2017 should become a year of liberation for Abdallah.
"The attack on the Jericho prison and the subsequent events have many lessons to be found in the struggle of Ahmad Sa'adat and his comrades, including his refusal to recognize the legitimacy of the occupation courts. Despite all attempts to crack down on resistance and imprison those who struggle, the idea of resistance and the will and determination of the people for freedom cannot be crushed, despite security coordination and despite massive military aggression. Inevitably, we will see a light at the end of this tunnel and the occupation and the Authority will be held accountable. Today, the continuing popular movement is growing in the Palestinian street against the project of the Authority and, at the forefront, its security coordination policies that have been a catastrophic failure for the Palestinian people."
Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network salutes and remembers Basil al-Araj, who struggled all his life for Palestine and its people, committed to a radical vision of justice and liberation, and determined to take up the struggle by all means to secure that freedom against the occupation. We demand real justice for Basil al-Araj, the prosecution and accountability of all those responsible for his execution, and the immediate release of his body, as well as his impris...oned comrades and all 7,000 Palestinian prisoners of freedom in the jails of the occupation.
We once again demand an end to the policies of security coordination that further threaten Palestinian life and freedom at the behest of the occupation. We know that the vision and the dream of Basil al-Araj can only be fulfilled with the liberation of Palestine from occupation, oppression, racism, Zionism, apartheid and settler-colonialism and we pledge to intensify our work and struggle to make that vision a reality.
Solidarity with NYC Students for Justice in Palestine, being attacked by Zionists for supporting the campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat and all Palestinian prisoners. Algemeiner, the publication launching this attack, is full of ultra-right Zionist propaganda and attacks on all forces that seek justice for Palestinians. Of course, NYC SJP isn't just coming under attack because they stand for freedom for imprisoned Palestinian leaders and resisters, but because they're organizing youth to boycott Israel and confront US imperialism at a time of necessary resistance.
(Note: The Zionist publication is also attacking NYC SJP for refusing to talk with Zionist press. Salutes to NYC SJP for their commitment and clarity on boycott!)
Ahmad Sa’adat, the imprisoned Palestinian leader and General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, was honored alongside Marwan Barghouthi, fellow imprisoned Palestinian leader, at the 23rd conference of the Tunisian General Labour Confederation on Sunday, 22 January.
Sa’adat sent a message to the conference from his cell in Ramon prison on behalf of himself and his comrades in the Prison Branch of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The text of the letter follows:
Events held across the world on Jan.12-14 demanded freedom for Ahmad Sa’adat, the general secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and for all Palestinian prisoners. Sa’adat has been imprisoned by Israel since 2006.
