A reminder about tomorrow's open house to give feedback on alternative designs for the future of North Lake Shore Drive! From 3 PM to 7 PM at DePaul Student Center in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. There is also the chance to send written comments or to request an Uptown meeting via the NLSD Project website at http://www.northlakeshoredrive.org/contact.html.
Please plan to join a public open house on July 12, 3–7 PM, at Depaul University Student Center hosted by the North Lake Shore Drive Project to gather public feedback on initial alternatives for a possible future redesign of the Drive.
Alternatives may be seen on the project website under "December 2016 Task Force Meetings #6": http://www.northlakeshoredrive.org/involved_task_forces.html
Submit written comments and/or take a survey from July 12–Aug. 9 via the project website ...here: http://www.northlakeshoredrive.org/contact.html.
IMPORTANT: This meeting is NOT related to this summer's planned repair work at the Lawrence and Wilson viaducts, which has been much in the news this week. The July 12 meeting is part of an ongoing study and visioning process that began in 2013 for the whole of North Lake Shore Drive, led by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT).
Many who followed the Cuneo site over the years expressed concern about how plans would ensure safe walking and biking to Uptown's schools, lakefront, & Clarendon Park. The North Lake Shore Drive project offers a new opportunity for community input on possible future work in that direction! Join a community open house at Senn High School this coming Tuesday, June 6, to learn more about a study of the north terminus at Hollywood. Open House: 5:30–7:30 PM, presentation at 6 PM.
Be sure to take a look at the website and join in on social media to keep up with future community meetings! http://www.northlakeshoredrive.org/

This small corner of land at the edge of Clarendon Park in Uptown has been a place of dreams-come-true, often a place where good buildings, a lot of hard work, and new technology helped improve public health and well-being. It held a pumping station that supplied water for thousands, then a charity hospital devoted to women, children, and elders, then a home for children in great need of one. If you could choose, what dream would you have come true next?
Yesterday's announcement of $26 million for a new program, Saving Chicago's Treasures, to help meet the maintenance demands of Chicago's many architecturally significant fieldhouses gives a sense of the enormity of the need—and why it is so critical at this time. Clarendon Park wasn't named among the recipients but investment in twenty other parks will begin as soon as this year. See the full list here: http://chicago.suntimes.com/…/mayor-26-million-investment-…/.
Today will see the announcement of a new program, "Saving Chicago's Treasures," that promises the investment of $26 million in the Chicago Park District's historic field houses. Will Clarendon Park be a recipient? http://www.chicagotribune.com/…/ct-chicago-park-field-house…
