I was interested in taking photos of the Painted bunting behind the nature center. When I got there the feeders as usual were empty. I did not get the persons name that was there at the time but she w...as kind enough to put food into the feeders. Some Buntings came out for a short period of time. But I now know who is eating all the food. It's the squirrels out back that are attacking their feeders. These rodents seem to adjust quite well with the obstacle they placed onto the post. These squirrels jump from the tree onto the wooden post. As they leap onto what ever part of the post they choose to jump to their sharp claws help them quite well. I think if someone from He Nature Center would wrap the entire wooden post in that galvanized sheet metal the squirrels would have a difficult time latching onto the metal and stabilizing them selves onto the wooden post. Also there is a feeder called Squirel Buster two that feeder might stop them from getting any food out of the feeder. Those squirrels were quite annoying to all that were trying to see those Pretty Painted Buntings. See More

I don't live in Florida but my sister does and I take my nieces there every time I visit. On earth day they had a great celebration where they got to paint their faces, pet animals and they had more ...animals there than they usually do, it was wonderful. Love going there when I'm in town and my nieces love it too. The people are great! See More

Ever wonder what it looks like when a caterpillar is in the middle of creating chrysalis? Wonder no more! Out of 40 Monarch Caterpillars that we have at the center, we caught one in the middle of creating its chrysalis. In about 10-14 days we will be seeing a beautiful butterfly.
