We are changing the way the world views menopause--because the way we think about menopause is ruining our ability to enjoy it. xo

It’s so great to find a solid resource in this time of cultural upheaval. During a reading, an Arab actress told me my project passed the Bechdel test & then directed me to this organization. It’s bot...h humbling & very cool to start dismantling paradigms I didn’t even realize could be dismantled... See More

KAZOO magazine

Big cover reveal! Introducing Kazoo magazine #08, The Magnificent Mistakes Issue (March 2018, 64 pages, no ads)

Our daughters learn from a very early age that t...hey need to be perfect to be worthy, and that lesson is as harmful as it is hard to shake. (It’s why studies show that adolescent girls stop speaking up in class, why women don’t apply for jobs they’re qualified for, why fashion magazines run the same stories on getting bikini bodies every single year.) Kazoo #08, The Magnificent Mistakes issue, is the antidote to this perfectionism, and it’s all about how mistakes make us stronger. Some highlights:

•Read an original short story about a girl who lost her cat by 5x Pulitzer Prize nominee Joyce Carol Oates

•Get advice from U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren on why you should never let the fear of making a mistake silence you

•Lead the world's best skateboarder Lizzie Armanto through a skate-park-themed maze

•Bake ridiculously adorable and tiny cookies with legendary baker and 5x James Beard Award winner Dorie Greenspan (who once burned down her parents' kitchen!)

•Design and build DIY toys—a pom-pom catapult, a balloon-powered car and a marble rollercoaster—with top engineers, including NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Laurie Grindle, Toyota's Jackie Birdsall and roller coaster engineer Anya Tyler of Skyline Attractions, LLC.

•Learn about geodes and then grow your own rock-candy versions with Harvard geologist Raquel Alonso-Perez, Ph.D.

•Read about chef Julia Child, who once flubbed her flip on live TV, in a comic by NYT bestseller Lucy Knisley

•Make your own Wabi-Sabi-inspired rock towers and discover the beauty of imperfections with award-winning author (and Zen priest) Ruth Ozeki

•Memorize a funny joke by comedian Aparna Nancherla, star of Comedy Central's new show, Corporate

•Doodle a labyrinth to help you find calm with labyrinth researcher Donna Zucker, R.N., Ph.D., Professor of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst

•Learn about the scientific method and how mistakes move science forward (by doing your own experiment) with Amy Vollmer, Ph.D., Professor of Microbiology at Swarthmore College

•Do a color-by-dot and discover the magic of making mistakes in art with artist Saya Woolfalk, whose work has been shown at MOMA's PS1 and The Brooklyn Museum, and elsewhere.

•Plus, we've got a TON of fun activities, including a secret code, puzzles, a search-and-find, a tear-out poster and lots more. This issue is 64 pages (meaning, it's days-worth of fun, not just a few minutes). And, as always, it's 100% ad-free!

"For those outside the gaming world, the term "video games" does not suggest social change. Violence and sexism, yes; diversity and gender equality, no. This, after all, is the entertainment platform that introduced Grand Theft Auto and Lollipop Chainsaw, among countless other brutal and/or female-unfriendly games, to pop culture.

But a new generation of independent developers are looking to promote a more enlightened worldview, as is the non-profit Games for Change, an organization founded in 2004 to provide funding, resources and training for designers building games "that help people to learn, improve their communities and contribute to make the world a better place."

Organizations like Games for Change and games like 'Hair Nah' want to make a difference.
