New Weekend Trip for GIF students. We are now focusing more on helping students explore Italy. Last weekend we went to the German part of Italy for skiing, local cuisine (strudel and hot dogs), and a great deal more.
Gonzaga University Study Abroad students on the snow! We spent a weekend cross-skiing and snow-shoeing on Mount Bondone, and exploring the cities of Bolzano and... Trento. Special thanks to our hosts, the AERAT SOC COOP people in Candriai, for taking so much care of all of us… and a special mention to Rosa’s hot chocolate!
50 or so Gonzaga in Florence students went to Venice last week; one of them made a video. Is this the Venice you remember (minus the music?). Watch to the end for a special cameo by Dr. Batterman!
Gonzaga in Florence does fantastic educational weekend trips around Italy and Europe for our students. This past weekend we went to the East coast of Sicily: Syracuse, Catania, hiking Mt. Etna and more. Other trips include the Trentino region of Italy (Dolomites and Lake Garda), Venice, Krakow, Budapest, and Ireland. Enjoy the pictures (and we apologize for the inevitable jealousy you may feel)!
Between evenings at the Opera, church visits, weekend adventures (this weekend alone our students were with our staff in Ferrara and another group in the Trentino region...and a "few" students may have gone to Oktoberfest in Munich), and classes, of course, some of our students play in local sport leagues. Here is the the schedule for our two Calcetto teams in the Fiorentina Cup, which matches students from many of the American/international schools in Florence in "calcetto" games. Last Fall Gonzaga teams placed 1st and 3rd in the Fall tournament. Forza Zags!
Opening Tour has finished and classes begin today at Gonzaga in Florence. First and foremost, GIF provides students with a rigorous and compelling academic experience, localizing our courses to the rich possibilities Florence offers. Nobody does this better than our Art History Professor Mercedes Carrara. Follow the link below for a sample of her famously passionate lectures on Florence's art. Who was your favorite teacher at GIF?
A nice article about the 2017 Opening Tour's visit to St. Al's hometown. http://m.gazzettadimantova.gelocal.it/…/dalla-gonzaga-unive…
Gonzaga in Florence Students continue the tradition of the Opening Tour. This year, we go from Germany (Munich and Garmisch) to Northern Italy (Lake Garda, Castiglione delle Stiviere, Verona) to the Adriatic coast (Ravenna and Comacchio).
The staff and faculty at Gonzaga in Florence are not the only folks getting ready for Opening Tour. Hey GIF alumni, here is a chance to practice your Italian!
We have changed the name of this page to Gonzaga in Florence Alumni Page. The staff at GIF will post pictures and updates from our current students, staff, and faculty in Florence (see our Mud Angels video below), but we hope that that GIF alumni will add their own memories (stories, pics, etc) to this page. If we can't see you in Florence, we can meet you here.
On Friday May 8th, we will honor Manola and Matello Gelli at Jack n'Dan's Tavern from 4:30-6:30 pm. Matteo and Manola will be making a trip to Spokane for Graduation weekend, so we encourage any of you in town to stop by and say hello.
