GLSEN Massachusetts Educator Retreat
March 2-4, 2018

...

The GLSEN Massachusetts Educator Retreat in Provincetown is a signature event for GLSEN Massachusetts. Teachers, administrators, guidance counselors, school nurses, athletic coaches, educators and other K-12 education professionals come to Provincetown to share ideas and explore best practices. Providing a safe and welcoming environment is the cornerstone of the Educator Retreat. Through workshops and networking events, participants engage with a diversity of topics that are critical to their personal and professional development. LGBTQ educators and allies come to the Educator Retreat for different reasons. However, everyone shares common goals of supporting our students by enriching their lives with an educational setting that embraces all students.

We are so excited to be working with the Collaborative for Educational Services on this amazing event. See below for details, we hope to see many of you there!

The Transforming Education for Social Justice Conference: Centering Youth Voice, Experience and Power is a regional conference bringing together people in Western Massachusetts interested in social justice and equity in K-12 schools, early childhood classrooms, and the surrounding communities.

Participants and speake...rs will co-create a space for young people, educators, activists, administrators, and scholars to connect and network, share and learn, dream and envision possibilities for developing education as a tool for equity and social justice. In this space, participants will have the opportunity to examine the specific regional challenges that young people are facing in our education system which are a central to their lives and to the vitality of our communities.

The keynote: Pedagogy on Fire! Centering Youth Voices for Social Justice will be presented by Cyphers for Justice and Dr. Jamila J. Lyiscott, Ph.D. Cyphers for Justice (CFJ) apprentices inner-city youth as critical researchers through the use of hip-hop, spoken word, and digital literacy. This year's keynote is sponsored by GLSEN MA.

"Undoing, Undone, and Still" invites conference attendees to explore the ways we are undoing/unlearning oppression, the ways we are undone (the work is not finished, we have righteous anger, we're opening up, connecting to others, and more), and to consider the power of Still(ness..and still we persist, and "still we rise").

The 2017 GLSEN MA Fall Conference presents an opportunity to engage in workshops that explore methods of activism, intersections of identities, and the power of art. We offer Undoing, Undone, and Still as a point of consideration for presenters and participants, instigating the quest for deeper understanding. We will come together as students, educators, artists and social justice seekers to build community and share resources for creating and maintaining safer and more affirming schools for all students.
