Drawing in Prague zoo today! You might find quite difficult to draw animals which are constantly moving ( as monkeys) or boring - those who sleep all wrapped around itself as a fur ball. My advice : 🔸Start with big birds - they have clear shapes - easy to understand. They move, but always in certain pattern ( repeatedly coming to the same position in the short periods of time ). 🔸 Use paper and scissors to create big shapes first. It will help you to define general formal composition from the very start. 🔸Use fine tip pen to draw details which will add personality to the animal. Enjoy the process 😉 To be continued on Wednesday🌿🐒 #DrawingOutside_GraphicsEasy #GraphicsEasy is graphic principles broken down into short classes for regular practise. The many faces of INK | graphic course | 8 classes | 20 hours

Course dates 31.10 — 19.12

WHERE? Belgická 11, Praha 2 ...
WHEN? Monday 18:30 – 21:00
Course fee* 5 200 Kč
Participants in a group 7

*All materials included, 8 x 2,5 hour classes (20 hours total)

The many faces of INK is the first in a series of graphic courses by Graphics Easy ( www.instagram.com/GraphicsEasy/ ) about analogue materials and techniques and how to use them in the way your friends, clients and your granny will love.

Ink is a material of many faces:
– It covers surfaces with a perfect matt black on one hand yet it has water-blending possibilities which create transparent shades of silvery grey on the other,
– It’s brilliant for the tiniest details with an ink pen while it gets wild and uncontrollable with a brush, – It makes perfect gradients,
– It’s magic for drawing on wet paper.
This is all ink and our subject of discovery during the course.

The first five classes will be totally dedicated to experiments, the next two - to your personal project, and the last one we will leave for presentation and analysing what we’ve done.

The topic for your personal project is totally up to you - it could be an illustration for your favourite book, music album cover, movie poster, Christmas card or anything else you could think of.

Part 2/2
I had the idea for the colours and hairstyle for this character in my head before I started these paintings. Still, I went in different directions and tried very contrasting solutions. Because I believe that the first idea it's not necessarily the best one. (It's almost certainly not...)
And even after doing these tests I know that I will do more, because paper, brush, paints, my hands and chance are more creative that my brain alone.
My advice - don't stop explori...ng, go in all directions - and the results will almost for sure surprise, teach and open doors to new achievements 😉

Thank you for being here, Take care and talk to you very very soon 🍁🍁🍁🙂

Part 1/2
Today I'm testing different hairstyle and colour types for my character:
🔸I prepared copies of girl's head sketches that were made earlier so I can apply different hair styles and colour palettes to her
without damaging the initial sketch
🔸 I used watercolours because it's quick and the colours are bright and beautiful, but it also could be pencils, markers or other paints...
🔸I painted the girl's head from two points of view at the same time, so I'm aware of how she looks like all around

Continue to the second part

Part 2.
(Watch previous video first)
🔸 Kids' face features are not that expressive as adults' ones. They look more "smooth" in general - little accurate noses and mouths, lighter and thinner eyebrows, bouncy cheeks. Long noses and big ears are growing with age 😆

🔸Same rules are relevant when you look at a kid from profile - line of forehead, nose, lips and chin all together create very smooth curve without sharp transitions.

...

🔸 The smaller is kid the smoother is face.

🔸At the same time sticking out ears and big front teeth are very recognisable kids' attributes as well depending on age.

Hope you enjoyed the video, we will continue on Wednesday! 😉🍁

Good evening friends 😊
The girl we started to draw on Monday is a character that came to my head around a year ago and it's been there ever since. I had an idea about a girl and her cat and The Underfoot Kingdom, but embarrassingly enough I never really made any serious effort to bring this girl's story to life. Until last week. I finally decided to do so - and share the process of creating this story with you - sharing some useful tips and tricks as I go. So... if you also h...ave a character idea in your head you are very welcome to join me on my journey. Add #Character_Easy to your post to share it with me.

Today I'm drawing her head from profile, basing my drawing on the sketch I made on Monday:

🔸I drew the profile sketch just beside the one from the front - so I can make sure that eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth and chin on both sketches are on the same level. You can even draw light horizontal lines between them to help yourself.

🔸As always, I start with a general shape and simplifying forms from the beginning.

🔸I try to recreate the same expression on the girls face as the one she has on the sketch from the front.

🔸If you're struggling - take a picture of yourself from the front and from a profile view and draw. While drawing analyse and try to find the logic of how the shape works from these two different points of view.

🔸Check out head anatomy and head anatomy drawings to understand shape better. I could recommend Gottfried Bammes human anatomy.

Do you have any questions about the process? What are you interested in seeing videos on? 😉

Part 2.
Today's video comes in two parts so make sure you've watched the first one.
To improve my initial sketch I used a piece of transfer paper. Here are a few tips on how best to use it:
🔸Place the transfer paper on top of the sketch you want to improve

...

🔸Trace the details that you want to keep and, by shifting the transfer paper, adjust other details.

🔸Create a few versions - wider face/more narrow, bigger/smaller cheeks, thinner/fuller lips etc.

This way you can improve your sketches step by step without doing extra work. We will continue on Wednesday! Talk to you very soon! 😉

Part 1.
Today's video comes in two parts and features the creation of a character portrait and the first steps of its development.

My aim was to create a very serious and focused young adult girl. So I made her brow furrowed and her mouth tight.

...

From my first sketches I chose one for improvement - watch what happened next in the second part of this video

Our topic this month will be a #portrait and a portrait in illustration especially. A portrait is not necessarily an exact copy of all facial features and wrinkles of the portrayed person. I personally prefer portraits which instead reflect the soul, mood, character and emotions rather than each bump of skin. So here's a little advice for you to catch them:

🔸 Look at the person you want to portray and choose one main feature about them that you want to mention - do they have... a big nose, beautiful hair, a deeply furrowed brow? It will be the accent of your portrait.

🔸Then choose a few complimentary features which are also very specific about this person - their face shape, hair style, mouth expression, etc. These features will differentiate your person from others.

🔸Try to draw them with different instruments - from one that allows you to note small details to those where you will have to limit your drawing to just a few bold lines. Those will give you the scale of stylisation - from realistic to artistic.

As you see, I'm starting this month with an old issue of Russian Esquire magazine and Tim Roth's world weary frown. What about you?

A bit more about drawing hands today:

🔸Try quick brush sketches: it will train your eye to see proportions and general shape and your hand to be more exact - when it's not possible to erase our mind gets focused and results are better.

🔸Do inverted drawing - don't draw the object itself but space around it....
It will help to understand general shape better and train your brain.

That's it for today! Talk to you soon 😉

Hey hey! We're back from our mini trip to Czech Moravia ( you can check out photos from the trip on my personal @sasha_loves_ink account). Tomorrow is my first teaching day in @praguecollege
this semester and here is one new exercise about anatomy for you:
Maybe you've noticed how difficult it is - to draw hands. My granny, for example, when some of us ( her grandchildren ) asked her to draw a girl - always drew a girl with hands in her pockets, so she doesn't have to draw ha...nds. 👵
At the same time hands could be very expressive and add some extra depth to our drawings if we know how to draw them. Good news - it's pretty easy to practice:
🔸Ask your left hand to pose you! (or right one if you're left-handed)
🔸Draw it from different angles and in different poses
🔸Try to catch a general shape first
🔸Use joints to build a construction
🔸Add details little by little - try to follow shape with your mind and pencil carefully
🔸 Use soft pencils, start with light lines and add contrasts only when the drawing is almost ready.

🔸Draw many many times! 😉

Here is a very simple but powerful exercise for starters called "Rope man" :

🔸When drawing human body try to catch the move of the whole pose in a few simple lines - start with head , continue through spine to legs and feet, add the line of shoulders and arms.

🔸 Don't spend more than 2 minutes on one sketch.

...

This exercise trains your eyes and brain to see a human body as whole and quickly catch plasticity of pose.

You can draw yourself in the mirror, ask friend to pose you or just draw people on a street.
Let me know how it goes 💃

What do we learn to draw for? Why we're drawing different objects, gaining skills, suffering when it doesn't work out as we wish? Is it all for perfection - for the skill to be able to draw the object exactly the way it is?

No - we need certain skills to be able to transfer our ideas, our vision, our opinions from the head to paper in the most exact way. To provide the perfect service we need our body, senses and mind work in synergy - our eyes to see things, our hand muscl...es control every tiny move, our brain to analyse, compare and operate the whole system. This is why we should train them constantly.
But there is one more beautiful benefit from drawing from real life - you collect a lot of material that could be later used for other project. In today's video I'm showing the process of combining sketches that I've been making during this month into an illustration.
This video shows just the first part of the process - finding a composition - as you could see firstly I made a raw sketch - decided for the general composition and then was refining it but changing objects' size and location using transfer paper.

I'll keep working on this illustration and plan to make a live video about finishing it this Saturday. Details will be provided later this week. Talk to you soon!

Today I invite you to join me on our traditional trip to Saturday's farmers market.
This market is a great source for fresh vegetables, fruits and Saturday morning breakfast but today let's stop beside flower stand and enjoy it for a while. I'm drawing today with different colour markers and have just one piece of advice to share: start with light colours and big shapes, find the main elements of your composition and only then draw details!
As always - remember to enjoy the p...rocess! 🌹🌷🌻🌸🌺

Hello all!
Today we're still in Prague zoo and drawing giraffes!

As I noticed, it's easier to:
🔸Start with a light colour to find the general shape of an object (animal) and then use the dark colour to make the drawing more exact. This approach allows you to make mistakes in the first part and fix them in the second....
🔸 Create an illusion of space by highlighting objects which are closer to you with colour, while leaving the background a simple line drawing.

Do you have an experience drawing animals? What are your tips and know hows? 🐒
