In the time I’ve been studying this medicine plant, I have met a great many physicians and parents and cannawarrior caregivers who have reported remarkable impr...ovements, life changing, in autistic kids. I’ve read multiple fascinating, peer reviewed, NIH funded animal research studies by top shelf scientists (even a Nobel laureate), peering right down to the molecular machinery of neuronal synapses, that seem to explain how cannabinoids could be therapeutic and help to improve some of the functional imbalances in the autistic brain... possibly some of the challenges being due to compromised endocannabinoid signaling. And we know from the long history of using cannabis extracts in Western medicine that cannabis is very well tolerated in children, even high in THC. Yet in my many talks to doctors, lawmakers, parents and others who are not open yet to looking past the stigma of the weed, this is still a third rail. It shouldn’t be. I hope this kind of research can break open the therapeutic exploration for this population of kids, just as the stigma for treating pediatric epilepsy has fallen.
The beginning of the end?
