Lots of people ask if it is just country music that we feature in the Museum? The answer is no. We cover as many different genres of music as possible through i...conic instruments that were used on thousands of recordings and hundreds and hundreds of hit records. I guess they assume since we are located in Nashville, which is ground zero of country music, that it would be our main subject. The fact is that Nashville has never been just country music. Think of artists like Megadeth, Grand Funk Railroad, Gladys Knight, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Black Keys & Brenda Lee. Nashville has always been a smorgasbord of different musical genres.
The Musicians Hall of Fame is always searching for new and exciting artifacts to add to our existing museum. Being that August is coming shortly it seems appropriate that we honor the memory of probably the most historic, musical and cultural event in 20th century America. Woodstock. Most everyone knows of Jimi Hendrix's’ version of the Star Spangled Banner which ended that iconic event. My favorite performance from the movie (since I wasn’t there personally) was the debut of Santana for the first time outside of the San Francisco Bay area.
Santana's performance was at the peak of the concert and there was hardly a square inch of grass available as everyone was standing or sitting on Max Yasgurs 600 acre dairy farm in Bethel, New York on August 15-18th, 1969.
The Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum just permanently acquired Michael Shrieve's 1967 champagne colored, sparkle Ludwig drum set that he played with Santana at Woodstock 1969. Michael was barely 20 years old at the time. His drum solo on “Soul Sacrifice” is considered one of the highlights of the entire three-day concert.
The unveiling of these drums to the public will be this August prior to the anniversary of Woodstock.
“Come See What You’ve Heard™"
PS. If you can't wait to see Michael Shrieve's Woodstock drum set in August, you can come down anytime and see Joe Osborn's Fender Jazz Bass, Jim Horn's flute & Hal Blaine's Blue Sparkle Ludwig drum kit in our LA Exhibit. Both Hal and Joe performed 50 years ago during the Summer of Love at Monterey Pop Festival.
A CLASSIC OLDIE FROM THE BRITS !!!!!
The Queen's English
For those who appreciate the finer points of the English language when used correctly.......
His Lordship the Earl of Grantham was in the study when the butler approached and coughed discreetly.
"May I ask you a question, My Lord?"
"Go ahead, Carson," said His Lordship.
"I am doing the crossword in The Times and found a word the exact meaning of which I am not too certain."
"What word is that?" asked His Lordship.
" ’Aplomb’, My Lord.”
"Now that's a difficult one to explain. I would say it is self-assurance or complete composure."
"Thank you, My Lord, but I'm still a little confused about it."
"Let me give you an example to make it clearer. Do you remember a few months ago when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived to spend a weekend with us?"
"I remember the occasion very well, My Lord. It gave the staff and myself much pleasure to look after them."
"Also," continued the Earl, "do you remember when Wills plucked a rose for Kate in the rose garden?"
"I was present on that occasion, My Lord, ministering to their needs.”
"While Will was plucking the rose, a thorn embedded itself in his thumb very deeply."
"I witnessed the incident, My Lord, and saw the Duchess herself remove the thorn and bandage his thumb with her own dainty handkerchief."
"That evening, the hole the rose made in his thumb was very sore. Kate had to cut his venison for him, even though it was extremely tender."
"Yes, My Lord, I did see everything that transpired that evening."
"And do you remember the next morning while you were pouring coffee for Her Ladyship, Kate inquired of Will in a loud voice, 'Darling, does your prick still throb?'
And you, Carson, did not spill one drop of coffee? Now that, Carson, is complete composure, or 'APLOMB'."
A 'LITTLE' MONDAY FUNNY.
BUH DOOM! HEY,,, I KNOW IT'S AN OLDIE, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE FOLKS WHO'VE NEVER HEARD IT ????
"A man walks into a bar with a paper bag. He sits down and places the bag on the counter.
The bartender walks up and asks, “What’s in the bag?”
The man reaches into the bag and pulls out a little man, about 12 inches tall, and sets him on the counter. He reaches back into the bag and pulls out a tiny piano, setting it on the counter as well. He reaches into the bag again and pulls out a tiny piano bench.
The little man sits down at the piano and starts playing a Mozart piano concerto.
“Where on earth did you get that?” asked the surprised bartender.
The man responds by reaching into the paper bag. This time he pulls out a magic lamp. He hands it to the bartender and says, ‘Here Rub It’.
So the bartender rubs the lamp, and suddenly there’s a gust of smoke and a beautiful genie is standing before him “I will grant you one wish – just one.” Said the genie.
The bartender gets excited and, without hesitating, he says, “I want a million bucks!”
A few moments later a duck walks into the bar. Another duck, then hundreds more follow it. Pretty soon, the entire bar is filled with ducks and they keep coming!
The bartender turns to the man and says, “You know, I think your genie’s a little deaf. I asked for a million bucks, not a million ducks.”
The man replies, “Do you really think I asked for a 12 inch pianist?”
A REAL GROANER !!! NO MONEY BACK !!!! HEY I DON'T WRITE EM !!!!
"Once an Italian, a Pole and a Czechoslovakian went camping.
While they were sleeping two giant bears came and ate them all. The rangers came and found the torn up camp site. Then they saw the bears.
They shot the bears and cut open the female. In the bear they found the Italian and the Polish fellow. One ranger said to the other "where's the Czechosolvakian?"
The other ranger said: "The Czech's in the male.” BUH DOOOOOOOOOOM !!!!!!" HAL B.
