Please use caution when driving across the bridge today. Last night there was an invasion of Mayflies that has caused the bridge to be very dangerous. At one point they had piled 6 inches high and when ran over, became very slick. There were already motorcycle accidents due to this and cars stuck in the center of the bridge. Again use Caution.

Thank you to the City of Havana Street Department and IDOT for your assistance in getting them under control.

On 03-24-16, Officer Jones and Officer Harper responded to the Havana National Bank due to an employee (Steve Hickman) being trapped in the elevator with it stuck between floors. Later that day Steve arrived at the Havana Police Department and dropped off a thank you letter. With his consent we would like to share the letter with you all.

"I am Steve Hickman, and I just left my job for the day at Havana National Bank.

I came here today to write a thank you to all of you who ...responded to the call put in from HNB about myself being caught between floors in the elevator.

I am honestly impressed with how fast 2 police officers responded, as well as the fire department. I am very impressed that Officer Jones figured out how to free up the inner door mechanism that allowed the door to open, a ladder to come in, and allow me to climb out.

I am very grateful to all of you, and proud of you all for doing your jobs so well for probably limited pay in our small town. -Thank You All

Thank you to Officer Jones for serving in our military also, as perhaps many of you have.

Sincerely, Steve Hickman"

It is reasons like this that we love our job. Thank you's don't come along very often and it especially brightens our day to receive a letter. We do this job for one reason; because what better feeling do you get than helping people?
