***SKY SPORTS BREAKING NEWS***

Hemyock Cricket Club's Vice-Captain Alex Clist is likely to be ruled out for 6 weeks or more after breaking metatarsals in his foot last night.

*** HEMYOCK CC MAY RESULTS UPDATE ***

Pre-season signs indicated that a tough season may be in store for Hemyock CC given the loss of last years opening batsman Ollie Wilkins to bigger (but perhaps not better) things. Couple this with the loss of frontline pace bowler Josh Allen to work commitments and two of last years almost ever-presents in an unbeaten league season had been lost.

Hemyock's West Somerset Cricket Division 3(!!!) season started on Saturday 7th May at home to...

10 MAN HEMYOCK THRASH SECOND PLACED STOKE ST GREGORY TO MAINTAIN UNBEATEN RECORD!

Hemyock 258-6 beat Stoke St Gregory 130 all out by 128 runs.

A Hemyock side missing several players from their ranks travelled to Stoke St Gregory expecting a real test from the second placed side in the league.

...

Early signs indicated that it would be a tough game as the Stoke bowlers started really well, removing the returning Nick Allen for just 1. Alex Baird joined opener Malcolm Steer at the crease and the two began to slowly build foundations for Hemyock and they managed to reach 88-1 before Steer departed for 17 in the 18th over.

As you would expect, things picked up and Adam May's arrival at the crease was greeted by the introduction of a spinner. This did not go to plan for the hosts as May dispatched the spinner for several sixes in his early overs. Baird, who had struggled to yet another fifty soon departed for 53 as he struggled to get the ball away. Captain John Hurley then joined May at the crease as they increased the scoring rate yet further and pushed Hemyock to 160-3 from 30 overs meaning they had a stable base to launch an onslaught in the final ten over.

May went soon after which brought Alex Clist to the crease, he dispatched his first ball for 4 and in the final 8 overs he and Hurley found the boundary with increasing regularity. Hurley flew past a quick fire fifty with a fantastic drive through extra cover. The pair pushed Hemyock to 247 with an over to go.

Clist missed the first ball and knocked the second one for a single to get Hurley back on strike. Hurley was bowled next ball for a brilliant 74 as the Stoke skipper got one to nip back down the slope. He celebrated like a man who had just won the Ashes, not one who had just taken his first wicket after going for nearly 100 runs from his overs.

Then came the champagne moment. The fall of this wicket brought the experienced Nigel Cridge to the crease. He sensibly knocked his first ball into the gap and came through for a single to get Clist on strike for the final two balls. The field was made up of men mostly on the leg side and Clist knocked the first ball into a huge gap on the offside, two were run quickly with still no fielder near the ball. Clist called for four to be run, Cridge didn't seem as keen yet both managed to make their ground comfortably before the ball came back in.

Then for good measure after a man had been moved back into the offside, Clist smashed the last ball for a massive six over the leg side to take Hemyock innings to 258.

Stoke, in truth, never really looked like chasing the total down. They started slowly and lost wickets at a regular rate.

And bar some short lived big-hitting from several of their ranks, they didn't offer much. Clist was the pick of the bowlers taking 5-20 from his 12 overs, with Josh Allen, Cridge, Joe Hurley and Nick Allen all chipping in too.

HEMYOCK THRASH 7 MAN BUCKLAND IN JUST TWO HOURS!

Hemyock CC: 58-1 beat Buckland St Mary CC: 54 all out, by nine wickets.

Having won the toss on a 'green' looking pitch, skipper John Hurley decided to put Buckland in. With Mikey Ellacott struggling with his bowling and ruling himself out of taking the new ball, Alex Clist and Josh Allen opened up. After struggling to find a line and length in their early overs Buckland were looking good at 16/0 off of 2 overs. Clist then got a... ball to rise off of a good length and clip the Buckland openers glove which just about carried to Nick Allen at first slip who took an athletic catch on his return to the side.

Clist then picked up a further three wickets, one a good catch from Ellacott and the other two clean bowled. Allen then took his wicket as the batsman smashed a full toss straight to captain John Hurley at mid off. Clist then finished the innings by clean bowling Buckland's last man.

Ellacott and Malcolm Steer opened the batting for Hemyock and looked solid early on before Ellacott poked a defensive shot to mid wicket and set off for a run that was never there, he didn't get back and was gone for 3. Number three batsman Joe Hurley came in and played a classy innings as both he and Steer knocked off the remaining required runs with ease. Both players played some lovely shots in their innings and ensured Hemyock kept up their record of winning every league game so far this season.
