This podcast does what Revisionist History is trying to do. This is the real deal. Amazing storytelling combined with deep, original insite. I highly recommend the "Be a Man" episode. I can't count t...he times I have re-told this episode to friends at the office, on the beach and in bars. It's that good. Bravo and keep up the great work! See More

Surprisingly thorough philosophical analysis, with excellent real world examples. Very easy to listen to, entertaining as well as informative.

I'm both a philosophy student and an avid listener of podcasts. I've always been disappointed in the quality of philosophy podcasts, both in terms of lackluster aesthetics and either overly-dry or ove...rly condescending content. That is to say, until now. Hi-Phi Nation finally does the subject of philosophy justice by presenting interesting philosophical topics *through* the lens of accessible stories; all with a sense of aesthetic polish that competes with the best of the story driven non-fiction informational podcasts (i.e. Radiolab, Revisionist History, More Perfect, etc.). I highly recommend it to philosopher and non-philosopher alike. Also, as an aside, this podcast would also be a great resource for philosophy professors of intro classes and high-school philosophy instructors as an alternative method for introducing a topic. Pair it with some readings and you can show your students even more clearly how philosophy connects with our lives. See More

Finally, some quality pop-philosophy! This is a well-produced podcast, targeted at non-philosophers. I heard four episodes so far and can recommend it to anyone who likes to listen to radio or podcast...s.

What I like about it? Well, you know how pop-phil usually starts with some Philosophical Idea or Big Philosopher and tries to dumb it down (usually in a very condescending manner to the reader)? This podcast doesn't do that. It tells interesting stories in their own right and then uses philosophical concepts to add a further level of reflection.

Start with the first episode "The Wishes of the Dead" or with the second episode "Moral Exploitation", IMO the best so far.

(Disclaimer: I am a philosopher by trade.)

This is becoming one of my favorite podcasts FAST. Very nicely produced, interesting topics and discussions, illuminated form different angles.
For some people it might be too "artsy", but I prefer it... to be interesting rather that just dry academic philosophy. See More

Greetings Facebook followers. If you are a big fan of Hi-Phi Nation, the Guardian needs a 150 word description of why you like the show, so if you are not shy about putting your name behind such a thing, please email me today at hiphination@gmail.com, whoever you are, so I can send it along to them! Thank you and Season 2 coming in two months!

A month ago, I completed my first intensive podcast production workshop for academics. The focus was the production of narratives, and we included discussions of writing for audio, genres of audio for communicating academic ideas, voicing, and software use and production techniques. The department at Sacramento State is interested in alternative forms of communicating scholarship and teaching, and got funding from their administration. I hope to see a lot of content from them soon! If you are in academia and interested in your own intensive workshop and equipment list, I am available, just contact me through the website.
