Was nice, good outing for family. Saw a guy with his accordion. Some music in beer tent. Only one stand to get German food...really?! Lots food and vendors expensive as usual. Parking was easy. Doesn'...t seem like a Oktoberfest at all just another street festival but something to do. See More

I wish there were a designated smoking area. I hate that the children are exposed to it, not to mention we that don’t smoke! They may have a right to smoke but I have a right to breathe clean air as w...ell. I doubt that I will go back. See More

Great job of telling people that dogs aren’t allowed on a street vendor fair. Brought my whole family here for my birthday and was turned away because we had our dog with us. So disappointed.

Always a fun event...just wish it was cooler weather in October this year, but the organizers cannot control that.

We look at this as a family activity/event and in that way we enjoyed it. Other reviewers have said that it is like a typical street fair and that it does not hold to the traditions of a true Oktoberf...est. I can't disagree. It would be nice to have more sauerkraut and brautwurst available. A few years ago there was a guy in German costume and playing accordion - haven't seen him lately. It would be nice to see more such acts and vendors on site.
The street vendors always seem to be the same and prices go up and up. Someday soon I think this event might price itself out of business but for now we do enjoy it.

Definitely need to expand alcohol allowed area. Block off entire square and allow open container.

It's really fun for me. I don't care about beer so that doesn't bother me.

Some of the vendors were very rude mainly the man selling socks....I usually enjoy it so much that I gave all three days but the rain ruined Friday so I went for 4 hours on Saturday and really enjoyed... the group playing music in the square they were amazing ...I miss not having the Muscatine cider vendor there ...but all in all it was only ok this year ...hope it's better next year.. Went early afternoon yesterday. Stopped in at Main Stage for beer and music. Bobby Darrins band was playing. They were awesome! They played a great variety of music, something for everyone. I stayed u...ntil they finished the last song. In previous years I would come back in the evening for the music. There was no other band listed that I wanted to see yesterday. I would like to see Bobby Darrin at a later time next year. See More

I never write reviews on anything but I felt compelled to this time. TOTAL disappointment! It was a bunch of carnies! Most of the vendors were total crap from the total crap circuit. Hardly anyone... was local! There was even an atheist tent! I will never take my family back. Hickory is better than that! Give us some local artisans, food and beer! Not some traveling circus. I don't think I even have words to describe how awful Hickory's Oktoberfest is. If you want to get an accurate picture, look up the "actual" Oktoberfest that the United States festivals have taken ins...piration for, then look at ours.

It's a collection of carnival food stands, very little of which celebrate German roots of German inspirations. We don't have "themed" tents dedicated to various breweries. The environment and how it interacts with beer and drinking is incredibly restrictive, forcing you under tents that lack a pleasant environment. It's just a matter of "how many people can we cram in here so they can drink."

As a carnival, it's alright. Alright at best. As Oktoberfest... yeah. Not so much.

Not very much emphasis on what Oktoberfest is all about, which is German foods, drinks, traditions. Food vendors are always the same, and you can find chicken teriyaki, but you can't find a good brat.

This was our first visit and will probably be the last. I really expected more of a Bavarian experience and what we got was a street fair. Not bad but a far cry from a traditional Oktoberfest.

I attended the event and we listened to the band Bobby Darin band . Great music, great selection of songs played. Definitely think they should be playing next year as one of your headliner bands on F...riday or Saturday night !! See More

This is basically a street festival like any other street festival. No emphasis on Oktoberfest whatsoever. And the fact that the Christian protesters are allowed to stand on the corner and scream obsc...enities is insane. I would never take my children there for that reason alone. See More

Oktoberfest is the BEST FALL FESTIVAL in the Southeast! I may be prejudice since I was one of the "founding mothers" of this festival 29 years ago, along with the Long's of WHKY, Beemer Harrell (the ...FOUNDING FATHER), Marion Love of LRU, and other future-thinking people who love downtown Hickory. How miraculous that it has continued for these 29 years, growing and becoming better and better. Congratulations! to the committee who is still seeing that we enjoy Oktoberfest each year, including chairperson, Tracy Nestor. Keep it going, Tracy! See More

I go every year and I wouldn't miss it. Very family oriented, great food, rides and love watching Clater Kaye Theatre Works preform there as well.

Augustana had a wonderful time as a vendor! The organizers did their best in the harsh weather. We will be back next year for sure!
