The National Audubon Society has designated Highline Lake State Park as an Important Bird Area. Visitors have observed and recorded as many as 200 species of birds in our Park! Come down and visit our feathered friends!

Our time together for the Summer Outdoor Adventure Programs has come to an end. Join our Interpretive Naturalist for one last night hike about the lake. We’ll look at the stars and listen to the wildlife one last time.
Where: Meet in the parking lot just west of the Visitors Center.
Remember to bring: bug spray, water bottles, snacks, comfy active-wear shoes, flashlights, jackets, and a good attitude!

FLASHLIGHT TAG: PREDATOR VS. PREY
*Saturday, September 1 8:00-9:00 PM
Grab your flashlights and head out to Highline Lake for a night of learning and fun. We’ll be playing team flashlight tag with the overlying theme of predator vs. prey. We’ll learn how animals are adapted to hunt or hide and have fun doing it!
Who can come? Families are all welcome! Children ages 5-12 are recommended for programs. Please no children under 5 without a parent. No unattended children allowed during night programs.
Where: Meet in the parking lot west of the Visitor Center.

AFTERNOON CONSERVATION: OH DEER!

“Oh Deer!” is a fun game that teaches children about the importance of sportsmen and women in the circle of life. It also teaches children about wildlife management and some of the work that the Colorado Parks and Wildlife strive to do every day. Come down to Highline Lake for a fun afternoon of learning and games, you just might learn something new!
Who can come? Families are all welcome! Children ages 5-12 are recommended for day programs. Please no children under 5 without a parent.
Where: Meet near the Day Use building under the shade of the trees.

Come down to Highline Lake State Park for a special treat. Our Interpretive Naturalist and biologist Danielle will be featuring a night hike where you can ask any of your burning questions about biology or other sciences. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it takes to be a biologist or to work with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife, this is the hike for you! Let’s celebrate science and curiosity together!

STAR PARTY VOLUME 2!
**Saturday, August 19th Come gaze at the stars with the Western Colorado Astronomy Club! They will bring plenty of equipment and set up in the Visitor Center parking lot. Sunset will be at 7:52 P.M. with viewing starting around 8:30 P.M.
What can I expect to see?- Close-up views of the Moon and planets! Later stars, star clusters, and deep space objects will be featured....
Where: Meet in the parking lot just west of the Visitors Center. Don’t forget to bring blankets, jackets, camping chairs, comfortable shoes, and flashlights!

Come down to Highline Lake where the animals sing and call during the night. Under a field of stars, we’ll take a short hike about the lake and learn about the nocturnal animals that call Highline their home. We’ll also practice listening to all the hustle and bustle like these animals in the darkness.
