Its a small building that has a bar a basketball court up stairs and a small bowling ally. But the bowling ally is small and holds 6 lanes. I will be honest that this place is in a bad neighborhood of... holyoke. Also the bowling lanes are tough allys. They use pen and paper for scores which is the old school way. But all in all i like this place. Also this was my first time going to the turn hall in holyoke mass. It was an interesting place. See More

My grandpa and grandma immigrated to Holyoke more than 90 years ago, grandpa working in the mills, grandma raising five kids. They eventually settled in the "battleship," just a block away, where I re...member visiting them in the 60s, salivating at the inimitable aroma from Dreikorns bakery, a sign we were almost at grandma's house.

I remember so many tales from my mom and dad about grandpa's adventures at the Turn Hall, and of course tales of my dad's own exploits. Being too young at the time, I had no idea what a Turn Hall even was.

Alas, mom and dad divorced and I moved to California with too few visits over the years to the uncles, aunts and cousins who remained in Holyoke, Chicopee and South Hadley.

But even on my infrequent visits to the East Coast, I never went back to the battleship or the neighborhood, as grandma died years ago.

That is until last month, when an aunt died, and I went looking for some family history.

How lucky I was to walk into the Turn Hall and be greeted by Marty. He gave me a little history lesson over a couple of mugs of Yuengling, and I felt a great nostalgia for a place I'd never been to or thought even still existed.

Not sure if this is a great endorsement or not, but now three generations of McNeills have downed a pint (or two) in this friendly place.

Best wishes to Marty in his efforts to turn this hall around () and keep it going for generations to come.

The Holyoke Turn Hall, now being run by Marty Fullwood, is a throwback to the great neighborhood taverns of Holyoke. Local folks looking to unwind, relax, grab a bite to eat from the Daily specials ...Marty puts out, and listen to some good music from the local scene. Clean, spacious and friendly, you won't find a better bang for your buck. Bowling, basketball, burgers and beers, how can you go wrong! See More

Fun dive bar with numerous special events, DJs, and bands on weekends. Well made, cheap drinks. Delicious food (especially the pasta salad) when they have buffets at events. $5/trip up!
