neverQUIT:

The longer I sat with Kristina the more her deep determination became obvious to me, she has an ability to continue leaning into adversity, no matter the obstacles.

Kristina is 48, grew up in Chicago, was in the Navy from 1987-1992, she has PTSD from that time, was raped. She also has traumatic brain injury and an incomplete spinal-cord, leaving her now in a wheelchair, needing a caretaker.

...

She and her ex-husband, along with three children, now 11, 13 & 15, came to Seattle in 2014. They lived in lots of places, tents in the KOA campground, in their Jeep, and later the van, where she lives now with a caretaker. Her kids live with her ex, she talks with them all the time, sees them on Sundays.

Kristina is taking Political Science at Seattle Central Community College, she will be applying to Law School at Seattle University and also Seattle Pacific University, wanting to work to address the gap between ADA regulations and enforcement.

Almost all of Kristina's income, which comes from the VA, goes to her schooling. She gets her food from soup kitchens, food banks and American Legion, and does all of her showering at school. She'll tell you that lots of folks around her will say, "Give it up", or even worse, "You'll never make it." But she presses on, says those comments only make her try harder!

American Legion Post 40 is purchasing new tires for Kristina's vanHOME, which is very generous. The van still needs an oil change, radiator fan needs fixing, and belts need replacing.

We are hoping to raise $275 for her auto-needs, whatever is left over will go to purchase gas-cards for her. No funds go directly to Kristina and no funds go to Facing Homelessness.

It was a sincere pleasure meeting you Kristina, you are both beautiful and inspirational, thanks for the wonderful talk!

beyondTHRILLED:

Several months back, Facing Homelessness put out the call for hiring a BLOCK Project Manager, we received nearly seventy serious applications, interviewing eighteen people, wowWOW!

The process was beautiful for us, each person was wonderful, we spent so much time listening&learning, sharing&smiling, a bunch of laughing and tender moments too that brought tears. So grateful to everyone that expressed an interest in joining our little group to do this work!!!

...

Today, we are so veryVERY THRILLED to introduce you to our new BLOCK Project Manager Jennifer Tee! She is truly absolutely completely wonderfully PERFECT for this job, to a T!!!

Here is what Jennifer wrote - "I am beyond excited, humbled, and honored to be working with Facing Homelessness and the BLOCK Project AND to be a part of this amazing community working to end homelessness. As a long-time Seattle resident seeing the number of people living outside has felt disheartening and overwhelming for a very long time which is what brought me initially to Facing Homelessness as a volunteer. THIS organization provided a pathway for me to get involved and has given me hope that there are solutions to the homelessness crisis when communities come together with love and compassion. I look forward to walking this road with all of you!"

Our collective heart is honestly BURSTING with happiness having Jennifer join the Facing Homelessness team, we can't wait for you all to welcome her into this beautiful community!!!
