Destiny Flynn is in Arlington, Virginia, this Memorial Day. It's a trip she's made several times with her husband, Marine Corps Special Operations Staff Sgt. Liam Flynn, when he wasn't deployed or in training.
This year, however, she headed to Arlington not with her husband, but instead to honor his legacy.
Liam, 34, who survived four tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, died March 10, 2015, when the UH-60 Blackhawk he was in crashed in thick fog during a training exercise ...
When U.S. Army Major Shannon Fortner arrived in Iraq in March of 2003 it was during the initial phase of the invasion.
“It was my first deployment in any arena,” so being in the ramp-up portion was particularly interesting and illuminating, she said.
Fortner's job title was “Adjutant”, in the Logistics Cell of a Battalion....
“This hero, this Marine was killed today while off duty. His neighbor, who was having a domestic with her husband, came to him for help. He stepped out and confronted the man who then gunned him down. His assailant was pursued by Police and died as a result of the encounter. Officer and Corporal Ramzziddin, Semper Fi Brother!” -Chris Whittington
