A fascinating short article using the processes involved in producing whisky to think about time, sustainability and our impact on resources moving into the future.
What if we ran out of peat?! 😱

Make that winter dram an intellectual one.

Selkie Batch No001 is nearly finished & Batch No002 is being labelled, fingers crossed for some more bright days so I can snap some more photos with the new label! If the weather forecast is right I might get some in the snow! ☃️🥃 #selkie #whisky #blendedmalt #scotchwhisky #instawhisky #loch #dram #glencairnglass #whiskylove #whiskygram

I think our Selkie Batch No001 looks right at home in this weather beaten, lichen covered Hawthorn tree. #selkie #blendedmalt #scotchwhisky #whisky #nature #lichen #instawhisky

We've just added an 18 year old Dailuaine to our web shop.

Dailuaine was apparently the first Scottish distillery to have the now famous pagoda roof!

The nose is fruity with sweet raisins and herbs. This one tastes like the quintessential Speyside, full of heather, honey and ‘Life’. Great finish and long aftertaste.

Oh Wow! We bottled a cask of Rosebank several years ago that has remained one of my personal favourites so this is exciting news! Have you tried a whisky from Rosebank before?

Ian Macleod Distillers has secured an £80m asset based lending package to support the revival of the Lowland malt whisky brand, Rosebank, and fuel its growth plans.

This is interesting, rather removes the romance of a cask having waited till just the right time to be bottled though.
I had a recording studio in our last warehouse, I wonder if the vibrations helped our casks mature 🤔

What music would you play your whisky?

Fast liquor, aged in months rather than decades, is the holy grail for distillers who are trying techniques ranging from using special barrels to blasting their brew with ultrasound.

£1,000,000 for a hogshead cask, say its 30 years old and the angels have been nice and left you half at more than 40%vol, at cask strength you have 178 70cl bottles. The whisky alone would be £5,618 per bottle. 😲 Retail value is anyone's guess!

How much is too much to open the bottle?

Casks of Scotch whisky have been sold for more than £500,000. Why is interest so high in the spirit?

Another interesting article here, I've often wondered if the maturation site affects the resulting flavour of the whisky, so these 2 opinions are enlightening even if they don't give a clear answer!

Do you think the more romantic idea of a whisky maturing at its distillery adds to your appreciation of it?

https://scotchwhisky.com/…/does-it-matter-where-whisky-is-…/

The type of cask used to mature whisky is clearly a vital part of that spirit’s final flavour in the glass, whether that cask used to hold Sherry, Bourbon, Port or Madeira. But what about location? Does it make any difference if a whisky is aged in a wave-beaten maritime warehouse, rather than a vas...

Quite a nice wee article from Life Hacker on drinking whisky, good to show any friends who don't know how to start. No mention of single casks though, which we of course think are an important component in the spectrum of whiskies available. https://lifehacker.com/everything-you-need-to-know-to-get-s…

If you’ve never really explored it before, drinking whisky can be intimidating. Deciding what whisky to try first is a big decision. And once you decide, should you put in on ice? Drink it straight up? Try it with water? And how are you supposed to taste all these crazy flavors people keep saying yo...
