#ICYMI We had a great time hanging out with Radio One, KBXX 97.9 The Box Boom92 Houston and Majic 102.1 last Friday. Thank you, McDonald's for hosting!
Earlier this week, the HPD Honor Guard provided funeral services for retired HPD Executive Assistant Chief Wilfred Navarro. Afterwards, the Honor Guard members stopped at the Saltgrass Steak House on the Katy Freeway, where an anonymous person picked up the tab for the group; It is unknown if it was the restaurant or an individual who provided the show of generosity.
The gesture was definitely appreciated. Thank you!

Recently, Officers M. McCracken and J. Hoffman, assigned to the Midwest Patrol Division, were dispatched to a suspicious person trying to sell a stolen camera at 5900 Richmond. When officers arrived, the two suspects were detained. Officers discovered that the property was from a Burglary of a Motor Vehicle (BMV) that occurred two days before at 11200 Bellaire Boulevard.
Officers determined that the suspects arrived in a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Inside the vehi...cle, officers found over $10,000 worth of stolen camera equipment and a pistol located in the glove box. The officers contacted the BMV victim, and she verified that most of the stolen items were hers. The items were returned to her.
After discussing the case with the District Attorney's Office, one suspect was charged with felony theft and one was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. A third suspect on the scene was arrested for warrants.
The officers’ actions led to the recovery of valuable property and the arrest of three suspects.

Here is a #FridaySmile provided by Ms. Chevelle regarding her son and his encounter with two of our officers:
“I just wanted to commend Officers Neal and Schilling for their kindness and generosity. My son (pictured with them) has ADHD, ODD, and BDD. He is a handful.
One day Officer Schilling pulled someone over in the parking lot of the daycare where I work. I stopped him and asked him could he talk to my son because he was acting up that day. He said sure and told me... to go in the daycare and let him talk to him one on one. They talked for about 15 minutes. I thought that was nice of him and didn’t think I would hear from him again.
The following week he called the daycare to check on him. He called every day for a week. Then he called the following week and said he was gonna stop by and check on him. The following day he showed up with Officer Neal and brought him gifts. They talked with him and even came in the classroom and talked to the other kids. They didn’t have to do that they could have written him off but they didn’t. Me being a single mom that is exactly what he needed. I thank God for those 2 officers. They continuously check on him and the other kids.”

In an effort to make citizens aware of motor vehicle vulnerability, the HPD - Auto Theft Division recently visited the parking lot of Home Depot to inspect vehicles and see if they would pass or fail a theft reduction inspection.
The goal was to identify issues that could potentially attract thieves leading to damage and loss of property.
Here are some things to remember when parking your car:
... • Burglary of a Motor Vehicle (BMV) is the #1 preventable crime
• Lock all doors and roll up windows
• Always park in a well-lit area, and be aware of your surroundings
• Park only in high traffic areas in parking lots
• Use auto theft deterrents such as car alarms, kill switches, and steering wheel locks
• Keep all valuables and packages out of sight
• Call the police or notify business security of any suspicious activity or persons
• Do not leave any valuables in your car unattended, especially overnight (e.g. cell phones, laptops, money, wallets, purses)
• While at home, if possible, put your vehicle in a garage and lock the door, or at least park in the driveway.
Check out this short clip of Officer Castillo conducting a BMV check:

At the Senior Safety Initiative in Denver Harbor recently, children in the community and officers came together to play a friendly game of kickball. No word on who won. #communitypolicing
