- I'm Grace McCarty. I'm a senior fashion design student here at FIT studying sportswear. I had the opportunity to work with IBM and use their AI to help my fashion design process. Incorporating new techniques into fashion that's not just aesthetic, but also functional is something I think that fashion's gonna go for. I'm working with Dr. Hui Wu from IBM Research. I think people are really intrigued when you mention AI or wearable technology within their clothes, because I think it's so very new, and the idea is still being developed, but I think the more that you tell people about it, the more interested they become and the more open they are to hearing more about it. I'm someone who wants to incorporate wearable tech as like a functional aspect, not just aesthetically, and adding that AI function added this whole other layer of how do you make that wearable tech more purposeful? And so that's kind of the approach I wanted to have with my garments and the designs.
