Responding to an active shooter will be the topic of The Neighborhood Watch Organization meeting this month at the Jarratt Fire Department. A short program will be presented by Greensville County Deputy Kevin Hines, program coordinator on March 20 at 7 p.m., on active shooter response.

While saddened by the loss in the community, authorities also celebrated the arrest of two suspects in the murder of Lake Gaston’s Nancy Alford.

Retirements from the City was the prominent theme during the recent meeting of the Emporia City Council. In fact, the Council honored one of its own in recognizing former Council member Deborah Lynch, who stepped down from her District 7 seat on Dec. 31 after seven years of service on Council.

The Mercedes belonging to John and Nancy Alford has been located. No other details available. The Alfords were robbed, beaten, tied up, and their home was set on fire. John tried to save his wife but couldn't. She perished in the fire at their lake Gaston home. Prayers for the family and the quick apprehension of the 2 masked intruders.
