This week's #IlliniAlumniSpotlight is an American businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who is co-founder, executive chairman and chief technology officer of Oracle Corporation, Larry Ellison. As of January 2018, he was listed by Forbes magazine as the fifth-wealthiest person in the United States and as the eighth-wealthiest in the world, with a fortune of $62.4 billion. "llinois grows more pumpkins than any other state in the United States. Pumpkins are grown on over 12,000 acres of land in the state. Eighty percent of all the pumpkins produced commercially in the U. S. are produced within a 90-mile radius of Peoria, Illinois."
This week's #IlliniAlumniSpotlight is former Ecuador President, Rafael Correa! Correa grew up in Guayaquil with a lower-middle class family background. Despite the financial hardships, Correa took advantage of every opportunity of education that his family or family-friends provided for him. By excelling in his education, Correa was able to study at the University of Illinois, where he graduated with a Masters in Economics in 1999, and then later a PHD in Economics in 2001. Correa later became the 43rd President of Ecuador, serving from 2007 to 2017. He was widely positively received by his country during his presidency. How amazing is it that we #UIUC students share the same education and University as a president?

Today's #illinialumnispotlight Max Levchin, '97 graduating class, is a member of the founding group of Paypal. He along with three other UIUC classmates founded Paypal together in the summer of '95, with the idea of programming "digital wallets" for people. Levchin's contributions on the Paypal team primarily included increasing the security and anti-fraud efforts. Later after leaving Paypal, Levchin helped found the famous food reviewing website, Yelp! He has since worked on a lot of projects and served on board for many internet companies. While at the University, Max Levchin received a bachelor's degree in computer science!
