Finally comes with a good news. I picked up my laptop yesterday and yes, a Samsung screen for this time. I checked it carefully. Ho Cheung was right, it seems apple started to replace the screen with Samsung for all users who had IR issue. I hope the nightmare will be end and I'll continue to update my story in the future. Wish all friends like me who still fighting with apple will have a Samsung screen soon. Good Luck!

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

Started from Macbook Pro (Retina) released back to last June, the discussions are continued. Check the post above. We don't know how many people experienced the issue and learned the dark face of Apple, some people got lucky to say byebye to the crap screen but others were treated differently, they are still fighting with apple, who allowed their employee said it is "NORMAL", in addition, refused to do the replacement. For me, I spent almost $3000 and plenty of time on apple's fault. I have to stop my study, my project, my work and drive from one store to another, in order to have the crap to be replaced. It is still continued. When will be the end for all this? Who knows.

Bless us

Got a long time off for this week so I finally had a chance to send my laptop back to Apple. Everything went smoothly. Arrived around 2:30 and got a 15 minutes test by a nice guy (anyone know what is BOH test?), then I was told may take 3-5 business days. Let's see what will happen. Maybe I'll have my 4th LG crap?

OK, haven't been here for a while. Working hard and endure with my sh*t screen. I just have no time to repair or replace the screen. It may take days or even weeks. And now, we have a new friend Jh Han who was still getting words from APPLE "RETENTION IS NORMAL"

WHAT A SHAME!! APPLE!!!

Finally I can take back my laptop last night around 9:00 pm, and guess what, LG again. OK, this is my 3rd LG and I read from other posts, some people said not all LG will have the IR issue. Let's see what will happen next.
To me, I got 2 LG screens happen to have the issue, that was 100%, now what about the 3rd one?

Received a call from apple store today. My screen has arrived. That was really fast. They just placed the order yesterday. I have booked the visit for Friday and I'll keep update the story.

Today I went to another apple store. A nice guy test the screen and ordered the screen for me. Why it was so different? Both of them called Apple Store.

Now I can just wait for their call, then take my laptop there for the replacement. It may take up to 7 days to get it back.

Hope I can get a Samsung screen.

How to know you got a LG or Samsung screen?
1) open Terminal
2) type in the content below

ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

...

if you have
LPXXXXX-XXXX -> LG Screen
LSXXXXX-XXXX -> Samsung Screen

How to check whether or not you got Image Retention (IR) issue already?

Download the test app and run on your computer.

(Thanks to the author as well as Gi Ga)

Try 5 or 10 minutes first, then if you do see the retention, try shorten the time. You will know how serious after the test.

Or you can download the picture and test by yourself

I put my test result here as your reference.
Less than 3 minutes I'll get the image remain on the screen
