Tomorrow I'll be taking a few pictures to display in the "Modus Operandi" exhibition at The Gallery in St George's House Bolton to show alongside work from a number of the group who studied and completed out PGCEs 10 years ago. There will be paintings, photography, drawings and at least one art book - it should be well worth a visit.
The official opening is from 2.00pm to 4.00pm next Saturday 3rd February - all welcome!
Today's first Rochdale Photography Workshop went really well in spite of the temperature hovering around 4C.
Working outdoors and keeping warm by walking between locations we managed to cover:
Camera handling, care and controls...
A range of compositional techniques
Working in Manual mode
Understanding of automatic modes
Focus and Depth of Field
Lenses and apparent perspective
Exposure control including difficult conditions
Freezing and blurring movement
And a range of new viewpoints for familiar subjects
I was very impressed with the effort and concentration of the participants and the large number of interesting images they were able to create.
There are still places on my next workshops on Thursday 11th Jan and Saturday 13th Jan - places can be booked using the links below (price £20 per person).
Weather permitting, I will be running further sessions as we head through the remainder of the Winter and in to Spring.
I'm up to day 7 of my image a day challenge #shaysimageaday - all of the images are posted on my Instagram account. I intend to carry on posting a new image, created or completed on that day, every day for as long as I can and as long as I can still learn and enjoy the process.
I'm not challenging others but happy for anyone else to have a go if they like.
Today is my second day of my new challenge #shaysimageaday with a new image; photo, drawing, print or words every day posted onto Instagram. The link is to the image for day 2.
I'm really pleased to be launching some brand new photography workshops starting in January. The first session is on Saturday 6th January, from 12:00 to 16:00, nicely in time for the New Year Resolutions to learn new skills and to be more active.
The workshop will involve walking around Rochdale to develop skills and techniques and create some fresh images with different viewpoints. Should the Winter weather be really bad I'll be bringing a range of props so that we can work ...indoors.
You can book online through Eventbrite following the link below - at an introductory rate of just £20 per person for a four hour session it might be the ideal Christmas gift for the aspiring photographer in the family.
There are two further sessions planned for This 11th and Sat 13th January also available through Eventbrite.
After a vintage morning I've been busy prepping images for sale on my Etsy shop so that the images being exhibited in the gallery at the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre in Rochdale are also available online - links coming soon, once they are all ready.
