What do these News Feed changes mean for you and your business?

TL;DR - Facebook users may spend less time on the site, which means you've got to step up your advertising game.

1) Facebook users are going to start appreciating their accounts more.

There's been some nervous talk lately that, while it remains the largest social network with over 2 BILLION daily active users, Facebook is losing its competitive market share. The largest demographic is still millennials, despite the growing user bases of Snapchat and other newcomers.

Some opponents of this announcement (including key investors in the public company) worry that this update will lead to users spending LESS TIME on the website or app and that their ads will be even more difficult to generate leads (it's kind of a catch-22, you see?).

But I think if Facebook can make change its relationship with its users from a transactional, cold-feeling one to a symbiotic, warm-feeling one, everyone will benefit: Facebook, its users, and its advertisers.

2) Advertising is going to get more difficult, which means you've got to step it up.

If ads aren't going to be shown as often as in months past, we as marketers and advertisers are going to need to step up our game. Learning more about the platform, the algorithm, the possibilities of different types of ads and targeting, AND tracking how these each perform will become ever more important.
