I always loved the idea of a Victorian era War of the Worlds. No need to modernise the story. This could be amazing!

Head transplants might not be with us in the near future, but maybe we'll have them one day. If that happens, is the person created from a head and a body a whole new person? Or does our identity reside only in our brains?

It would be nice if aliens were to blame for crop circles, but this explanation is just as good.
Many thanks to everyone who voted on their favourite book description. It was a close tun race, but description B won by 7 votes. Lots of people said they preferred the final paragraph in description C, however, so I did a little editing.
A and C were also popular, which tells me different descriptions appeal to different readers. No surprise there. So I'll be swapping the descriptions every few weeks.
