Obituaries

Melton W. “Toby” Bruce, 65, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 in Tallahassee. He was born in Quincy, FL. October 5, 1951 to Elisha and Alice D...ees Bruce. He was a graduate of James A. Shanks High School and has served with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office for 33 years. He was a member of the Washington Lodge #2, F & AM in Quincy and was a very avid FSU baseball fan.
He is survived by his life partner, Shirley Bates, daughter, Victoria Givens of Tallahassee, and son, Christopher Givens of Tallahassee, five grandchildren, and his brothers, Benny (Diane) Bruce of Tallahassee, Mike (Shari) Bruce of Lake City, FL, and Vernon (Mary) Bruce of Crawfordville, FL.
He was predeceased by his parents, a son, Mitch Bruce, sister, Sara Helen Dalton, and brother, Johnny Bruce.
Visitation will be Monday, February 27, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Charles McClellan Funeral Home. Masonic graveside services will be Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard will do Honors. Rev. Maurice Langston will officiate.
Charles McClellan Funeral Home, 15 S. Jackson St., Quincy, FL., (850) 627-7677, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ruby Brooks of Quincy, Florida, passed away August 27, 2015. She was born December 5, 1927, in Carrabelle, Florida, where she grew up. She and her husband moved to Quincy in 1950. Known as “Miss Ruby”, she was loved by the community. Most people knew her through her work at Dooner, Fletcher, & Edwards.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Littleton Brooks, and a daughter, Mary Jacqueline. She is survived by a son, Stanley Woods (Becky) Brooks, a daughter, ...Angelia (Parker) Davis and grandchildren Stephen Gauss, Barry Davis, Melody Donaldson, Brooks Davis, Sarah Reagan, Rachel Brooks, and Zachary Brooks. Her great grandchildren include Emma Reagan, Coleman Reagan, Chance Donaldson, Alexandria Donaldson, Jacob Davis, and Margaret Blumenthal.
Mrs. Brooks is also survived by two brothers, Fred Phillips Jetton of Carrabelle and Jennings Woods Jetton of Quincy, as well as a sister, Rebecca Jetton of Tallahassee.
Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Washington Chapter #43, Order of the Eastern Star as well as First Baptist Church. Services will be held Monday, August 31, at 11:00 am at First Baptist. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 am prior to the services.
Donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or a charity of choice.
