What's, very interesting to me is whenever I'm out on the Bay and come into sewer The Jesse Lee Hall is is visible it's. One of the should we call it one of the landmarks and syrup You can imagine a day before we had all the buildings. And those are the two major landmarks that you would see after 1925 from a historic perspective, something that Alaska should cherish But a part of the history of of Seward has been a model in the past Have these places where they can get an enrichment to their education They've got a lot of history. We have a store that sells on the National Register of Historic Places The Jesse Lee Home just adds to that sort Preservation is important because unless we understand where We've been it's hard to create a story for where where we can go together as a people and so understanding that Jesse Lee homes role in the state's history and how it came to be and what its purposes were When we understand that we can then look forward on on how we can benefit from from using it again Pinkerton Full Billy Blackjack Chuck was in the home at the Jesse Helms the first ordained native Alaskan in the Methodist Church and he went on to found Alaska Methodist University, which is now Alaska Pacific University One time he came to sewer and He called me up and he said Take me to the lovely home. I wanna do something there so he took him up there and he had a flag A big flat. You'll ask a flag and he said. I want to fly this from Jesse How Feel he said if you are driving through taxes and you found an abandoned dilapidated building in those little sign on it, that said this is the home of a Texas flag and he said. I just want people to know this is where the Alaska State flag was not only designed This was first flown and they had a beautiful garden and they did love to work in that garden Would girls get out there and hold that we daughter got twice a week It's the same issues that we're talking about today. John How do you diversify an economy How do you get people work? How do you make this a place where people can live and earn a living and I think that Jesse fit into that. I think it will bring jobs to sword being operated as a charter school and we're excited about it The leadership school would be a great opportunity for the Park as well as those aspiring to be native leaders to interact with the Park service at at us earlier time and be more comfortable With them and have more interaction with them it's about the people that will use the building and it's about the future that will be created through the building The people that will use use that building and that that the possibilities that get created their That's. What gets me excited learning at that age and having that interaction with the the Park Service and Fish and Wildlife Service can really lead to better relations to get a lot of different thing over everything They're building the computer electricity at all I go to everything unless these young people from the villages have another choice Their future will be much greater if You're from a village school and You've got one school That's a limited option. But if we give them another choice for Jessie Lee Home Type Leadership Challenge that only opens their future for them so many people who grew up in that just in the home they took a piece of the justifiably home with them and they still carry the designing of the flag by an Alaska native like many Benson was connected native Pride and Native Rights and the whole movement and Benson had a significant role the psychological aspects of natives fight for rights in Alaska But Jesse Lee, home can unlock the door to a young person's future and I think if we are willing to make that investment and to Put the Jessie Lee home back into operation with today's standards and in Today's world and create opportunities for these young people I think state is gonna be better off as well as the individuals
