Over the past 10+ years, hundreds of derby photographers have posted their photos online for you to enjoy. Think of all the photos documenting your derby life on the track -- how much are those photos worth to you? Hypothetically, how much would you pay to prevent all those photos from disappearing forever?
(If you'd pay to *make* all those photos disappear forever, use a negative number.)
Painful to read, but not surprising. Stay away from leagues that allow toxic behavior.
Omigod, the new rule book's here! The new rule book's here!
Five years ago today, Rat City vs. Rocky Mountain at Westerns 2011. Three full jams of standing doing nothing, plus another 20 minutes of delaying the second jam whistle. This was the beginning of the end of my love of derby, when I began to realize that WFTDA's rules are fundamentally broken and provide no incentive for blockers to skate.
Effective immediately, roller derby bouts will no longer include roller skating. Instead, each team will send a lawyer to sit at a table in the center of the track, and whichever one finds the most loopholes in the rules is declared the winner.
I used to beat this drum a lot. Now it sounds like a dead horse.
Don't fucking do this.
WFTDA announces the launch of JFTDA, because apparently the existing JRDA doesn't meet their philosophical requirements. Another clusterfuck in the making.
"Plus, the [WFTDA.tv] team learned that viewers were willing to give feedback about coverage." That's comedy gold.
Yup. What he said.
Good news, everyone!
Nina Knockout and her baby daughter were brutally attacked this past weekend. Please donate to help their recovery, if you can.
Wanna buy a banked track? Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
Having a banked track at RollerCon - finally! - was an incredibly awesome bonus for our 10 Year Anniversary (and Ivanna said to mention the WFTDA banked track s...crimmage was one of the highlights of her [pretty awesome] game schedule, too). But next year we are most likely moving back into a hotel convention center and almost certainly will have to build sub-floors and tile tracks, and we aren't sure if we'll have the time and staff to build the BT again. So if your league is interested in going banked, now is a great time.
All serious offers will be considered. The track comes with skirts (that we didn't use) and its own trailer. We bought it for $15K and spent another few thousand repairing the track and trailer, just to give you a starting point for your offer. We have a driver scheduled to pick the trailer up on Tuesday to take it to storage, but if you're considering buying it, our driver can take it to your house instead! email@example.com for more info.
