Hillary Clinton is corrupt in countless ways, but her desire for personal profit is among the least of her transgressions. She didn’t stay in her thoroughly corrupted marriage for money, she didn’t set up her server for money, she didn’t fire the White House travel office for money, she committed these sins — and myriad others — in order to seek the power and status that she covets and feels she is due.
If you want proof of the journalism profession’s staggeringly high self-regard, you could do worse than to study the kerfuffle over the not-quite-demise of Gawker.
It would be a disaster for conservatism to become associated with white identity politics.
There's a new GLoP (Goldberg-Long-Podhoretz) podcast up at Ricochet. In between incredibly discursive conversations about the history of TV and film, we manage to discuss our favorite TV shows and movies, among other things. Click below to listen. And while you're at Ricochet, think about signing up to become a member.
The news that Steve Bannon is riding to the rescue of the Trump campaign is just too perfect.
To listen to both his defenders and critics, Donald Trump represents the U.S. version of a new nationalism popping up around the world. I’m not so sure.
In a normal, healthy political system, the Clintons would be shunned like pimps in an Amish colony.
There are no good options left for the GOP.
I want to put forward a challenge to everyone still clinging to the Trump-can-change, pie-in-the-sky, free-beer-tomorrow, Godot’s-bus-is-just-running-late, he-can-change fantasy. Pick a date. Any date between now and Election Day. I want you to commit to the idea that if he hasn’t changed by that day, he never will. And on that day, you need to accept that he is the same cheeto-dusted smatterer some of us saw from Day 1. Then, ask yourself: “What should we do now?”
Sometimes you just have to marvel at the way smart people can talk themselves into stupidity.
Gingrich became a historic figure by wresting control of Congress in 1994 with the Contract with America. It was that document that made expanding NATO a cornerstone of Republican and American foreign policy. Now, like another of his historic accomplishments, passing NAFTA, Gingrich is throwing it all on the garbage fire to make room for Donald Trump’s agenda.
No doubt Clinton, a lifelong feminist, believes her rhetoric about shattering the final glass ceiling, but one thing is clear from her decades in the political arena: If she thought it wasn’t to her advantage to say it, she probably wouldn’t.
Let’s all be honest and tell the truth because Hillary Clinton isn’t and doesn’t.
Ever wondered what I think about the history of the modern conservative movement, what my favorite drink is, and what I do for fun? No? Oh, OK, then. But read this interview I did with the Intercollegiate Studies Institute to mark the release of the 50th-anniversary edition of "What Is Conservatism?" (for which I wrote the foreword) anyway. And then, since you'll already be on the website, just go ahead and buy the book.
Already, editorial boards are preparing their indictments of what they believe to be Donald Trump’s incompetence, bigotry, and authoritarianism. Trump operatives will undoubtedly respond: “That’s what they always say about Republicans.” And they’ll be right.
Bill needed to humanize Hillary Clinton. The woman has been in public life for three decades and the highest best use of her former president husband is to spend an entire convention speech trying to convince voters that she’s human.
