Delano Police Department

On August 24th, at about 8:30 am, Delano Police Officers were dispatched to 11th Avenue and Glenwood Street regarding a major vehicle collision. Orlando Morale...s, 34 of McFarland, was found to be the sole occupant of the vehicle and it was initially believed the traffic collision was the cause of his death. During the Traffic Division and Kern County Coroner investigations, it was revealed that Morales had been wounded by a firearm prior to the collision, which caused Morales to lose control of his vehicle and collide into the building located at 11th Avenue and Glenwood Street. A forensic pathologist concluded the cause of death was by a gunshot wound. Delano Police Detectives assumed the case from the Traffic Division and through extensive investigation, two individuals were identified as having shot Morales in the area within the 300 Block of 11th Avenue. Pete Santiago 21 and Jose Medrano 22, both of Delano, were arrested and charged with homicide with accompanied gang enhancements. The Delano Police Department would like to thank everyone who provided information to this case and making it clear that the Police Department, with the help of the community, can solve these needless and senseless gang shootings. Together we are one!

ALL inquiries regarding this matter may be referred to Detective Corporal L. Scott at (661) 720-2245.

When our viewers first saw surveillance video of a man's car being torched, many assumed it was the work of a scorned woman, driven by burning rage- but the own...er of the car said he had never seen the woman before. Meanwhile, a mother saw the same video on our newscast and got the shock a lifetime when she recognized her 20 year old daughter, a criminology major at BC, pouring what appears to be gasoline on the car and watching it burst into flames. Her daughter has since taken to social media to admit she is the woman in the video, but has zero memory of lighting the blaze and has no idea why she would ever do that. She turned herself in to police last night.
