We’re in El Paso covering what the Beto O’Rourke campaign calls the official kickoff for president after he announced he was running on social media on March 14th.

O’Rourke already wrapped up a two week tour of eight battleground states. The El Paso rally is one of three in Texas today. He will also be in Houston and Austin.

In a field of 16 or so democratic candidates for president so far, O’Rourke consistently polls closer to the top, usually at number four behind Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, who hasn’t actually announced.

The World Championship BBQ contest at the rodeo is around the corner. We won’t win that. But we might win a contest for the best beans and rice, chicken oporto and french toast!

CORRECTION AND APOLOGY: When Frank asked Christine and I if we liked to take naps, I said “not usually.” But my son watching us from home knew better. Elijah, who is four, yelled at the TV: “HE’S NOT TELLING THE TRUTH! HE DOES TAKE NAPS!!” He’s right. We nap on Sundays, and sometimes other days. I’m sorry Elijah! Next time I’ll be more precise.
