Wow! Thanks to all who have supported our School Fund effort. We have raised 5,000 of the necessary 16,000 dollars already! With this money, we were able to deliver school supplies to 64 children and now have half the money we need to build a house for a child in need. Please keep the support coming!
With much joy I would like to share exciting news about the latest developments of our unique organization. After three years of hard work developing our pilot program with participating communities in Ecuador, our “Communal Forest Bank” initiative is up and functioning! This program gives members access to low-interest productive loans, which in turn is creating transformational results, not only in conservation, but income levels, productivity, and education. The German Agency for Interantional Development GIZ, awarded Kaya 24,900 USD to develop the monitoring and transparency components of our pilot program. The pilot has a two year duration, and will kick off in January 2012! The program is expected to benefit 18 families in the napo and sucumbios Province in Ecuador.
Connecticut College's Forest Justice Student Organization has an annual benefit concert called Funk for Forest Justice, coming up Saturday, Dec 10! They will donate all their proceeds from the event to Kaya Foundation. Thank you for your support Forest Justice!!
