The building my business (Ipseity Creative) is buying from the Kellerman Foundation has been beautifully refurbished with careful attention to quality and detai...l. There is flow to the space that lends itself well to stimulating creativity. We fellin love with it immediately and had to have it. I can't say enough good things about the Kellerman's. It was a true pleasure meeting them. A greater pleasure doing business with them. They are great people who do great work. See More

Did you know that one of our Heritage Days events includes 1st floor tours of the Oliver-Leming or "Flag House" at 740 North Street on October 2, 1:00-3:00pm. This historic home was designed by Jerome B. Legg for Senator Robert B. Oliver and Marie Watkins Oliver. Several major historic events for the state are connected to this residence, including the creation of the Missouri State Flag by Mrs. Oliver and the celebration of the signing of the Missouri Mule Bill in 1995 by Gov. Mel Carnahan. To learn more about the home and architect take the tour and join us for Heritage Days at Heritage Hall September 30- October 2nd!

Today is the LAST day to come enjoy our exhibit, Faceoff. It's been wonderful to house these works of art and share their stories with our patrons. We have had a great response from the community. If you haven't checked it out yet or want one last look, come by today.

Another day, another docking. Welcome Queen of the Mississippi to Cape Girardeau! It was very cool to be down there to watch them drop the bridge and dock.

We love being part of the downtown community where something new and exciting is always taking place for the people of the town. Today until 4:00 is "A Day on the River", Missouri Conversation and the Student Subunit of American Fisheries are set up behind the flood wall with taxidermy, live Mississipi River animals, food, casting lessons, and boat rides on the river! Everyone downtown was having a great time!

Throwback Thursday: Students at Southeast have enjoyed sitting on the hills outside of Academic Hall since it was first constructed. Jerome B. Legg was commissioned to build Academic Hall after a fire took the original structure in 1902. Legg was responsible for several buildings on campus, permanently impacting the built landscape. So many of these building are walked by everyday, with little of their history told. Come visit us for Heritage Days to learn more about this incredible architect.

Special Thanks to the University Archives for aiding us in finding wonderful photos of the University for our coming exhibit.

Architect JB Legg believed everyone deserved a good looking, quality home and to be surrounded by a beautiful built environment. He was a man before his time: client oriented, yet had his own style. This is an image of the front of a small book he mailed to over 6,000 potential clients- an advanced marketing scheme for his day. Learn more about Legg at Heritage Hall, during Heritage Days September 30- October 2!

In 1902, Science Hall (named Carnahan in 1998), the second building at Southeast Missouri State University, was erected. The structure was Jerome B Legg's first major design for the university. He would go on to design Academic Hall, after it was destroyed by a fire, as well as other prominent buildings on campus. Come visit us for Heritage Days, opening September 30th, to learn more about Legg's lasting impact in Cape Girardeau. For now, enjoy this photo of students inside an original Science Hall classroom. Special thanks to the Special Collections and Archives at Southeast Missouri State for the photograph.
