Statement from Emma Dent Coad, MP for Kensington:

“The terrible events of last night and this morning have devastated our community. At the time of writing this, fire services have confirmed a number of people have lost their lives as a result of the fire in the Grenfell Tower block. Our thoughts are with the family and friends who have experienced such tragic loss.

My first priority has been to ensure that local residents affected by this tragedy are being looked after. The ...emergency services have worked incredibly hard throughout the night, tackling the fire and tending to those injured. They are now working closely with council staff and volunteers to set up support centres for those affected.

Throughout the morning, I've visited a number of these centres to speak with residents and volunteers, and will continue to do so throughout the day.

The priority now is to ensure that the emergency services have every resource they need: from ensuring medicines are reaching those who need them, to providing appropriate care and support for the elderly, those with disabilities and families with young children. I will be working with the council to ensure accommodation is provided for all those who are unable to return to their homes.

We have already seen our community coming together in the face of this tragedy. Local people have been streaming into support centres with clothes, food and other supplies to help those affected. It is at times like these that we see the very best of our community, coming together in the face of such adversity.

I would encourage local people to follow the advice of emergency services staff, and anyone with concerns about family or friends to contact the emergency help line on 0800 0961 233.

I will continue to be in close contact with the emergency services, the council and the Mayor's office throughout the day, and will be working with council teams and volunteers to ensure local residents are getting every support they need.”

What a wonderful community we live in.

Churches, mosques, gurdwaras, synagogs are coordinating to bring help throughout the day and night to everyone affected by the fire.

Some community centres are full to overflowing with donations.

...

Kensington has spontaneously come together to offer exemplary support and care to people whose lives have been devastated.

Appalling disaster at Grenfell. There are no words to describe the horror of this fire. The people in homes close by have been traumatised, and Kensington Aldridge School will be shut today.

Huge thanks to the emergency services who have risked their lives to save others, and to locals who are offering help to people who have escaped.

We live in a country where a boss dares to send this around to hie employees:

"If by any chance Labour win, we’ll have to re-think a few things here at the company so if you value your job and want to hold onto your hard earned money vote Conservative.”

Don't for a moment think that people like Brooker are in a minority.

A company told its employees they would be the first to lose their jobs if business slowed down and they had voted Labour. In an email sent to staff on the day of the general election on Thursday, John Brooker, owner of Watford-based IT firm Storm Technologies Ltd, said “Labour voters will be made r...

It's not just people outside of Kensington who are unaware of the colossal wealth discrepancies within this part of the Borough.

Kensington & Chelsea Social Council's report on food poverty is required reading for everyone who lives in Kensington. Our tory councillors are confused about the existence of food banks.

That must change.

"We should be led by our grassroots movements." Emma around 1min 30.

There's some unvarnished, authentic opinions here that have been ignored just as much, if not more so, than the people who voted for Brexit.

Genuine creatives, not in it for the money but because this is who they are.

...

Genuine activists, not in it for the glory but because they are passionate about their communities.

Outsiders, not because they spend more than half their lives jetsetting around the world, but because the mainstream is toxic.

No one gets everything they want but we've got a chance to get something for a change.

The power of positivity and 11 years hard graft!

Grassroots locals and groups who've been fighting the gentrification and destruction of our community for decades gathered at the Town Hall to wait for the final recount.

We're not polished, we've not been trained from birth to politely groom people into believing we're something we're not:

Thank you, Sophie Lodge!

Nathan Akehurst sums it up nicely.

In the last, delayed, result of the general election, the Labour Party took control of Kensington.

As the dust begins to settle think about joining Kensington Labour. The tories are not going to take this lying down and there is work to do.

If you don't want to join a political party it's still important to keep talking with your friends and neighbours about the importance of being registered to vote, of voting and of course, of voting Labour.

You did it!

Brilliant, brave Kensington!

The tories just will not concede so the counters have been sent home. We'll know the result later this evening or tomorrow. In the meantime THANK YOU KENSINGTON!

Particularly young people and people who would normally vote LibDem or Tory - whatever the result, Emma will represent your interests in the Town Hall, as she and the Labour Group always do.

And a huge thank you to our loyal supporters, whether you're in the Party or not. Your trust has always made the difference. ...

"British canines have had a lot on their plates recently. Some have had to drag their bone idle human companions to the ballot boxes as many as 5 times in just over 2 years!

Many British voters are, at best, apathetic about having to cast yet another vote. This only adds to the notion that pictures of dogs at polling stations are by far the best thing about election day."

You don't need your polling card but you do need your camera to take pictures of #DogsAtPollingStations....

You know what to do.
