This is how Chris McDoland from the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival described the film:
Veteran Kiwi director and Festival alum Annie Goldson returns to Hot Docs with another 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 biopic, this time chronicling one of the world’s most colourful and notorious Internet robber barons/entrepreneurs, Kim Dotcom.
Goldson’s remarkable access to her elusive subject anchors this rip-roaring story about digital piracy, privacy, mega mansions, private jets, ea...rly-morning police raids and extradition threats. At its peak, Dotcom’s Megaupload site reported 50 million users a day, earning him archenemy status within the FBI, Department of Justice and Hollywood. With the latest New Zealand court ruling in February of this year, Dotcom faces extradition to the USA and almost certain jail time.
Is he an avuncular file-sharing Robin Hood or a greedy criminal hacker? 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬.

Variety writes about Kim Dotcom: Caught in the Web ...
"provides a fascinating albeit extreme illustration of the intersection between fame, greed, copyright and technology in the internet age."

"I loved director Annie Goldson’s profile of controversial Megaupload founder and notorious hacker Kim Dotcom, whose epic rise and fall has all the makings of a Hollywood thriller . . . "
In anticipation of our upcoming screenings in Toronto The Globe and Mail's guide to Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival gives the us a nice little review (and 3 out of 4 stars).
Hey Toronto! Kim Dotcom: Caught in the Web is screening next week at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. Screenings on the 2nd, 4th & 6th of May.
"Most powerful among the latter was Kim Dotcom: Caught in the Web, directed by New Zealander Annie Goldson, telling the story of the flamboyant German-born computer geek who was prosecuted in NZ for building a Napster-style download system for movies and other content. Goldson pulls together an extraordinary amount of material, including some jaw-dropping police footage of a raid on Kim’s mansion. She doesn’t judge, but there is certainly more than one villain in her film." - BFI
