A decade ago I spoke about needing actual benefits and discounts to bring in more of my fellow sysadmins and that without them, LOPSA wasn't worth the price of admission. I was basically called shallow, only caring what I could get out of it, and lectured on how mentoring was the way to go as the main benefit that LOPSA would provide. I've mentored quite a few fellow sysadmins over that time but I would have done that with or without LOPSA.
Not a single person I mentored saw the benefit of joining LOPSA. Now the board comes hat in hand with their mea culpas but it's too late. LOPSA squandered its youth. You had a chance to step up during Covid to let loose; make yourself an online juggernaut of training and virtual gathering but you failed. Instead, your website barely works and most Systems and Security Admins and Engineers have never heard of you or didn't realize you still existed. I've been a member since March 2006 but I'll be shocked if LOPSA still exists when it's time to renew toward the end of 2022.
