We'd like to thank everyone who attended yesterday's interesting and thought-provoking session with the Former Latvian Foreign Minister Jānis Jurkāns. And a big thanks also to the LSE SU Political Risk & Investment Society for helping us to organise everything!

Next week we'll be having a social at The Old Bank of England by the Strand/Fleet Street. Mark your calendars! (Link: https://www.facebook.com/events/200103773730578/)

Don't forget our event with the LSE SU Political Risk & Investment Society at 6pm today (6 hours to go)!

Former Latvian Foreign Minister Jānis Jurkāns will be speaking on the geo-political and economic consequences of Trump's presidency for Europe – especially for the Baltic states.

We hope to see you all there!

"When the euro was created, it was partly as a solution to the 'impossible trinity' of simultaneously having free capital movement, a fixed exchange rate and independent monetary policies."

Next Monday (21st), the Director-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission Marco Buti will be speaking on the implications of this "impossible trinity" for the next stages of reform of euro governance in TW1.G.01.

All welcome!

The Young European Leadership (YEL), winner of the European Charlemagne Youth Prize in 2015, is hosting the Young European Council 2016. The event, which will take place from November 7-11 in Brussels under the high patronage... of the European Parliament, is one of its kind. The annual conference brings together young people from all across Europe to voice their opinions, bring in innovative policy proposals and discuss these proposals with policy makers and the private sector.

The structure of the YEC 2016 consists of four interacting Councils. These are the:
1. The Heads of State and Government Council
2. The Council for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion
3. The Council for Security and Home Affairs
4. The Council for External Affairs and Development Aid.

They also have a fantastic list of speakers scheduled to give talks at the event, including several European Parliament Members, the Dutch and Maltese ambassadors to the #EU, and the President of the European Economic and Social Committee. Here's a sneak-peek of what they have in store: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Bhk1_RBXiE

The deadline for applications is October 2.

The LSESU European Society deeply regrets the outcome of the referendum. We will remain committed to provide a platform for discussing and debating Europe at the LSE. It is today - more than ever- that Europe needs to be understood not only by LSE students but also by the greater public. From the next academic year onwards, we will hold a range of events in order to have an academic and balanced discussion on topics at heart of the European project. Stay tuned to this page for more information!
