Did you know that in 1909 the trustees of La Porte Schools voted to organize a school for the African American children of La Porte? Since there was no facility to house the school, it was temporarily held at the Baptist Church on La Porte’s Northside. A short time later, a one room building was acquired for the school. Classes were taught by Mrs. Viola DeWalt and contained children from grades one through six. Recently, the school house was rebuilt using some remnants of the original building. On Sunday, February 25, the City of La Porte will be hosting an open house at the Historic Colored School House, 401 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Please join us as we take a look at a piece of La Porte’s History!
The City of La Porte will be delivering household garbage bags starting today. The bags will placed near the front door of your residence where possible or as close to the house when not at the door. Delivery will continue each weekday until all deliveries are completed. We anticipate this will take 3 days to complete.

The City's siren system contractor made repairs to the siren on Farrington Blvd today, and believes they have resolved the issue that caused the malfunction. We understand how concerning the alarm was this morning, and appreciate your patience. We hope you will help us by reporting any issues with the sirens in your area to OEM@laportetx.gov or 281-470-0010.
This is a message from the City of La Porte. At around 4:45 am this morning, January 26th, a siren sounded somewhere in the city. We were working to determine the source of the siren, when it went off again just before 7:00 am. We have determined that one of the City's sirens on Farrington Blvd is currently malfunctioning. Crews have been sent to the site to disconnect the siren until we can identify the problem. We will work to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you.
We are still working to identify what siren went off early this morning. The City is working with our industrial partners in the area, and will also be dispatching someone to check the City's siren system today. It was not a tone we are familiar with, but we will continue to look at all possibilities to determine what took place this morning. We will update you again if we are able to determine the source.
The City is working to determine the source of the sirens that went off about 10 minutes ago. It was not the City's siren system, and we are not under a shelter in place.

The City of La Porte's water system was brought back to full pressure this afternoon. Public Works is doing their best to address individual water issues, and most outages have been due to frozen pipes at the residence or homeowner's property. This evening, Public Works will only be dispatched to residences where a water main break is suspected. If you experience a water main break, please call the La Porte Dispatch Center's non-emergency line at 281-471-2141.
