This place is amazing! We went in the heat of the day both time and I didn't complain too much. Lol. The trails seem to go on and on. We saw a lot of birds, som...e turtles, alligators, and the cranes! The crane chicks stole the show. There wasn't very much trash at all, but we did pick up a few bottles and my husband got a cast net out of the water. We will definitely be back. See More

The refuge is beautiful! Lots of wildlife to see especially if you like gators. There's a great observation tower halfway through the .5 mile walk. No pets allowed and definitely stay on the given path. Also looks like it's a good place to go fishing and there is no entry fee. Enjoy!

If you like to be in a quite place and are not scared of wild life this is the best place. You can see gators basking in the sun. You can see all types of wild ...life. Just respect nature and remember that the water is not a place to play! Don't go during hunting hours and you will be safe. My kids love going on walks and learning about different birds and animals... We even learn about the trees. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day. But go potty before you go and make sure you can hold it until you get to the parking lot. See More

A great wide open space for walking or biking. Plenty of room for fishing. Lots of birds and alligators. Open from sun up to sun set...

Perfect place to relax and see wildlife. Birds everywhere, and usually gators and snakes too! Bring your camera - I recommend sunset. :)

Very nice and pretty setting! Well groomed trails but going all the way to Pontoon ?? was not worth the extra distance. Saw lots of birds and gators.

This refuge is gorgeous. There is a lot of wildlife to see, beautiful plant life and not crowded at all. I would highly recommend it. Bring a camera a a bottle of water if you plan on hiking.

Love this run although the gators need thinning. The banks are covered with a gator every 50'.

Relationships between Sandhill Crane siblings vary. That aggressive actions and vying for sibling dominance occurs soon after hatching has been well-documented in northern migrant flocks where sibling rivalry and aggressiveness may be pronounced. In contrast, data suggest that year-round resident Sandhill Crane chicks in south-central Florida show little or no visible signs of sibling dominance. This video of the less than 48-hour old chicks on Pool 1 depicts what appears to be extensive sibling rivalry and aggressive behavior by both chicks. Sibling hi-jinx or posturing for survival of the fittest? At least both youngsters seem to be holding their own….and the parents seem willing to let them work things out without any interference.

Several folks have been reporting young eagles in the MYACCA nest but it wasn't until today that we were able to capture a snippet of video showing the eaglets in the bowl. Well behind the other eagle nest but these appear to be progressing very nicely.

Not to worry a whole lot - this Cottonmouth was filmed where folks rarely walk. And for many, this will be as close as they would wish to be...via a recording!
