Portland Parks and Recreation is hosting a 5K fun run at Laurelhurst Park on April 22nd (and other locations/dates).

PPR is also needing volunteers: Steve Pixley from Parks is looking for a few volunteers to help with tables & chairs, and to be course monitors along the way.

The volunteer responsibility would be from 7 am to 11 am on April 22. If you want to run, there is time after the chairs are set out, etc.

For more information on volunteering, please contact: steve.pixley@portlandoregon.gov and peggy.glascock53@gmail.com.

Laurelhurst Community Rose Garden Pruning Party, Part 2
Come one, come all to the second pruning party, where we’ll trim the rose bushes to the heights of our knees and do some general weeding as well. The date is Sunday, February 11, noon. We completed the task at Part-y 1 in under an hour. The more folks who turn out, the quicker we’ll be done. Kids welcome! It would be very easy to have a parent or two watch kids in the play yard while we tackle the roses. It’s an easy service project that is very family-friendly. See you in the beds!

Couple of updates on our efforts: How much work our fundraising covers, and how much work has already been completed! We've made some really good progress -- but still continue to need the neighborhood's support. Let's do this Laurelhurst!

Supervision, basic tools, gloves and water are provided as participants weed beds, prune trees and shrubs, remove invasive and nuisance species, mulch existing beds and prepare and plant in areas needing attention. The work performed is vital to the health of the park, the quality of the landscape and the pleasure experienced by park visitors.

During the 2017 season, extensive camping in and around the park diminished as did concerns about drug use and hazardous materials. N...onetheless, FLP will continue to stress personal safety training for volunteers. By reducing excessive plant growth and maintaining an attractive open environment, visitors are moved to respect and protect the park and its historic value to the neighborhood and the city.

Persons wishing to join FLP or participate in the planning process may get more information by contacting Peggy Glascock at <peggy.glasscock53@gmail.com> or Barry Kast at <kastb@peak.org>.

A fantastic way to support our school’s phase two of the playground project! We hope to have a covered outdoor play space soon! In the meantime, check out the completed turf field!

It appears illegal camping and drug use are on the rise around Laurelhurst. Please report every incident you see! We know it is frustrating but every report backs our complaints and pleading for resources. Also, please sign our Safety Zone Ordinance if you have not already. Thanks!
