The weather is looking quite lovely for Sunday's Lazy Sunday Ride along the Heathcote. And you're spoilt for choice with other bike activities happening this month: http://cyclingchristchurch.co.nz/…/biking-activities-for-m…/

Biking Activities for May 2018 The colder, wetter stuff is showing up a little more often now as autumn gets into full stride and winter looms. I’ve certainly noticed a (slight) drop-off already in the numbers biking to school and work, as the shadows lengthen and the fair-weather bikers seek alte...

Alas, the current weather bomb has ground to a halt over the South Island and now the rain doesn't look like leaving us until late Sunday. So the Heathcote Ride will be POSTPONED until next Sun May 6th (currently looking a lot better in the long range forecast) - https://www.facebook.com/events/167168217322173/

It looks like being a really wet Saturday. But at this stage it also looks like the wet stuff will clear on Sunday morning, in time for our cruisy ride along the Heathcote! Will keep you posted: https://www.facebook.com/events/167168217322173/

NOW POSTPONED TO SUN MAY 6TH
This is a cruisy family-friendly ride along the upper Heathcote River corridor (Cashmere - Beckenham), checking out the sights. Meet at the Chch South Library carpark (next to Colombo St & Hunter Tce) at 1pm. The route takes in a series of quiet streets and off-road pathways, looping down the river and back again (approx. 8km with a few stops). On returning, riders are welcome to join us for afternoon tea at the Red Cafe in the library.

There is plenty of car parking by the Library if coming by car; or take your bike on the Blue Line bus (every 15 mins along Colombo St).

It was a fantastic day last Sunday when we held our foraging ride through the Avon red zone. Plenty of apples, lemons and walnuts to be found, and even a few other goodies for the dedicated searchers! Look out for another Lazy Sunday ride at the end of April - current thinking is the Heathcote River corridor!

The sun is out - time for a foraging ride today! Nice quiet streets in the red zone to explore, and bring a bag for collecting some fruit!

Grab your family and friends and join us for a leisurely ride around parts of the lovely Red Zone area of Avonside, Richmond and Dallington.

All are welcome on this ride (children have to be accompanied by a responsible adult). The length of our route will depend on group size and who turns up on the day. And you can do as much or little of this ride as you fancy

There are small patches of gravel and we may cross some grass areas, but an ordinary city bike will be just fi...ne for this ride (we will have to get off and walk around for the food foraging anyway).

Departure time: Sunday 25 March, 1pm
Meeting point: Outside Avonside Girls High, 180 Avonside Dr.

Bring/wear: Sunscreen, sturdy footwear, basket/container for fruit/nuts, extendable fruit picker (if you have one and it's safe to cycle with), money for a drink at Pomeroy's after the ride and your sense of adventure.

Don't have a bike? Sign up to Nextbike to get your hands on a bike from one of their 7 City Centre Christchurch Bike Share stands. We will then provide you with a code after the ride to get your bike rental for free. BIG thanks to Christchurch Bike Share

This ride will be cancelled if the weather is nasty and wet. See this event page for updates Sunday am.

See you all there!

The weather forecast is looking just fine for tomorrow's Lazy Sunday Ride to Halswell Market - bring your sunscreen! We will be starting from the Hillmorton Shopping Centre at 12pm - please try to be on time! For those coming from further afield, you have a few options: (1) Drive there with your bike and use the shopping centre carpark, (2) take your bike on the Orange Line bus, or (3) use some of the surrounding cycleways and cycle-friendly streets to get there. See you tomorrow!

Lazy Sunday Cycle Chch are planning more cycle rides around Chch this summer; typically the last Sunday of the month. As always, we could do with more people joining the team! It's not difficult; just pick a family-friendly route you know and show others the way (we can help with the logistical details and promotion). If you'd like to help us organise rides, send us a private message.

Join other social riders for a cruise through Addington and Wigram to the first ever NZ Bike Expo (http://www.nzbikeexpo.nz/). This will be a gentle ride of 7km from Church Square to Wigram Air Force Museum. It is via the new "Little River Link" Major Cycleway and other pathways, and is suitable for families and less confident riders. Return at your leisure, or by Metro Bus #60 (Southshore) from the Wigram Town centre to Selwyn St.

If you have been busy during October getting... Passport stamps, be in to win great prizes at Expo. Check out the special early bird entry price (until Oct 16th): Two for One deal for riders, Expo entry special. Promo Code BIKETOBER2829

This ride will be cancelled in the event of very bad weather (watch for updates via comments). Also check out the ride to the event scheduled for Saturday Oct 28th if Sunday's ride looks marginal.

We've been a bit quiet lately as winter takes hold. But there is plenty of planning going on behind the scenes for a number of great biking activities in the spring (hint: Biketober!).
