There is a real misperception that the VC funded segment of the startup world is representative of the whole ecosystem. I spent a lot of time during Start-up Fest talking to people about some of the statistics around the number of startups that are VC funded as well as the number of for-profit accelerators (basically the VC pipeline model) versus broader entrepreneurial programs https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/230011. I really feel that a broader understanding of the mic...rocosm of this world may help entrepreneurs and enablers to expand their thinking and look at other opportunities that exist in starting and building organizations. I am certainly not saying that there is no value in the VC funding model, there certainly is, however, it is not for every organization or every entrepreneur. It comes with pro's and con's as do all funding options and seriously evaluating if it is a good fit for you as an entrepreneur, your organizational goals, and most importantly your vision must not be taken likely.
As for other observations in Petra's reflection, I too had a real issue with all the swearing. I do not consider myself as prudish however when I am paying good money to see 'industry leaders' share I find the swearing to be very diminishing to the content of the presentation. I just can't take the speaker seriously after repeated "f bombs" are dropped? Would love to know others thoughts on this.
