The Chicago Teachers Union is waiting on a signed contract. When our teachers wait, so do our students. Smaller class sizes, educational supports, a pay raise, supports for social justice are asks that must be met in good faith. #PutItInWriting #Leatherwood2020 www.twitter.com/leatherwood2020

I spent time with the Island Terrace Tenant’s Association yesterday at 6430 S. Stony Island. Tenant’s as old as 91 were in attendance and some have lived there for over 40 years. These residents have had the same concerns for years and demand change now! I stand with them. Thank you Sharon Newell for your bravery and sharing your story. This campaign will never be about politics, it will always be about people. We are unstoppable together. ABC 7 Chicago

This is why we make it clear that I’m not a politician 😂. I am a community servant looking to strengthen my capacity to leverage resources and opportunities on behalf of others. That said, our campaign is unique because our entire team consists of volunteers. Now, it is entirely my desire to raise funds to pay them (the team; because they are professionals and deserve to be compensated for their time), host community events, and pay for marketing material, but we can care less about how much money we raise in a quarter. We volunteer because the reward of serving others completely outweigh the selfish interests of obtaining political power. We are here to support and serve the people...not profit off of them. #Yep

I support DACA and improved pipelines to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. That said, we must do this work while also strengthening our capacity to control our borders. We can do both, protect and provide for those who are here and who wish to be here while also securing all borders.

We are proud to announce that our first official meet and greet will be with the veterans. I will never forget the mixture of military training and academic study I received over two years while in college via my Navy ROTC program (reserves over the school year and active duty over the summers). Still some of my fondest memories. I ultimately decided to pursue PhD, thus forgoing a commission, but nonetheless retain a deep respect for the service and sacrifice made by those who do the work of protecting our nation's citizens and territory. It’s been a while (around 10 years) but I think I still got it...HOOYAH! See you all tomorrow.
