A special court today sent a businessman, arrested in connection with an around Rs seven crore money laundering case against former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and others, to two-week judicial custody. A Delhi court today sought a status report from the police on a plea seeking lodging of an FIR against Bollywood actors Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and others for allegedly using a casteist slur against scheduled castes. The complaint has alleged that Khan had used the word during the promotion of his film 'Tiger Zinda Hai'. The Delhi High Court today exempted the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) from paying Income Tax, saying it was not carrying out any commercial activity with any profit motive. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Pratibha M Singh allowed the plea of the GNIDA seeking to set aside a 2015 order of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) rejecting its application for grant of exemption under Section 10 (46) of the Income Tax Act 1961. The Supreme Court has termed as "unfortunate" that in a number of cases, magistrates across India are not guided by concrete precedents set by it in exercising caution while applying their judicious mind. The National Green Tribunal has directed the Delhi and Haryana governments to identify and address the sources of pollution in river Yamuna. A bench headed by Justice Jawad Rahim ordered Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to ensure that action is taken against the erring industries responsible for causing pollution. The Delhi government is mulling live streaming of all official meetings following the alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash at the chief minister's residence last week. Prakash was allegedly assaulted by AAP MLAs and others during a meeting at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence on February 19. Bollywood actor Sridevi died of accidental drowning in her hotel bath tub, the Dubai government said today. The Dubai police, it said on its official Twitter handle, has transferred the case to the "Dubai Public Prosecution" which will carry out regular legal procedures followed in such cases. "Following the completion of post mortem analysis, Dubai police headquarters today stated that the death of the Indian actress Sridevi occurred due to drowning in her hotel apartment's bath tub following loss of consciousness," the Dubai government's media office said on Twitter. The Bombay High Court has said private firms appointed by the government for octroi and toll collection from vehicles have to pay stamp duty. A division bench of justices S C Dharmadhikari and Bharati Dangre was recently hearing a petition alleging non-payment of stamp duty amounting to crores of rupees since 2005 by a private firm which was appointed by seven municipal corporations in Maharashtra for collection of octroi and toll. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has told the Delhi High Court that it has not fixed the notice period for pilots but has just laid down the guidelines under the Civil Aviation Requirements (CARs) , and the power to decide the duration has been left with the airlines. A court here has awarded life imprisonment to a 38-year-old man for raping his teenage daughter which led to her becoming pregnant twice. Additional District Judge N R Pradhan, in his order, convicted the man under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
