This is so very, very sad. We have to build a place of safety for all. It is important to see the faces of the souls that have been taken from us by someone who must have been filled with incredible insecurity and hate. Hoping that all of our employees, students and families feel safe being who they are, wherever they are.
We can, and should, ALL feel sad, angry, hateful and fearful because of what happened in Orlando. But think about what you will DO when the shock and sadness wear down, when the anger and hate diminish. Will your fear rule the day, or will you open your heart and mind - in a real meaningful way - to those you do not agree with. Do not be ruled by those who try to control you with their fear.

L.E.A.D. Signing Day!
Had an all-day retreat yesterday where we finalized some priorities on a five-year budget. Many thanks to Budget Chair Matt Westmoreland for his multitude of hours working with the administration to help assemble the big picture. There are many different things we have covered in the budget and many things that we feel are priorities that are not covered. It is time that we, as a city of creative, smart, compassionate people, come together to help better prepare our children ...for school, to take care of them while they are out of school, to better support our most at-risk families and, as a district, to continue building a strong staff that is passionate about teaching and taking care our children. I ended the day with many thoughts of gratitude for all of our great Principals and school-based staff - WE APPRECIATE YOU and look forward to supporting your success with this plan!
